Hi I'm Dan

I grew up in South Florida. I serve the underserved as a prison counselor. I'm a Mormon, but I have not always been so.

About Me

First and foremost in my life I am a husband to a wonderful woman, and father to three great kids. My undergraduate degree is in biology and I have a graduate degree in mental health counseling. I have been practicing for about 6 years in a very challenging field, but it is not nearly as challenging as my most important opportunity... being a dad and father. I put myself through undergrad by repairing computers and printers. For part of grad school also provided technology assisted classroom support at a major University. All that to say, I like figuring out how things work. I joined this church in part because it outlines God's plan, which shows us how life works.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always attended church growing up and had a testimony of my Savior Jesus Christ. When I was 18, I graduated high school and went away to college. At college I looked for a church I felt comfortable in but didn't seem to find one. I had a friend from high school who suggested I look into the LDS church, so I did. When I attended a young single students ward a few weeks later the missionaries introduced themselves and asked me if I wanted to learn more about the church. I told them I did and set up an appointment to meet with them. They shared many thing I already believed in and others that just seemed to feel right. Over the next couple of months I read from the Bible and the Book of Mormon, thought about it a lot, and prayed. I still seemed to have a lingering question, was Joseph Smith really called by God as a prophet? This question sank deep inside me until I really had to know. I decided to plan a course of action and ask Heavenly Father if it was the right one. That is exactly what I did. As I prayed I felt an overwhelming peace come over me and I knew that God had indeed called Joseph Smith as a prophet, the Book of Mormon was His Word and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was His church. That answer to prayer has made a significant difference in my life and set the stage for many more answers to prayer. I am the person I am today because I have a Father in Heaven who loves me. I know God will answer your prayers too if you ask with sincerity.

How I live my faith

My faith is my life. In being a father it helps me to teach my children how to have faith in and communicate with our loving Heavenly Father. I'm able to tell what our savior Jesus Christ has done for us. My faith helps me to see that my relationship with my wife and children doesn't end at death. That knowledge helps me to try harder and put more effort into these relationships. I have a responsibility or calling to work with the missionaries in our ward (congregation) and love every minute of it. I get to see people change their lives and build or strengthen their relationship with God. I also get to visit with several families once a month and share a gospel message with them and see how they are doing. Between home, work, and my calling I stay pretty busy, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I get to be an instrument in God's hand to help people in many areas of my life.
