Hi I'm Rachel

I'm an entrepreneur, I'm a teacher, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm kind of a nerd. I love fantasy stuff, like LOTR and Harry Potter. I love playing video games; I've got all three major gaming systems, the 360, PS3, and Wii. I adore curling up in a blanket and reading (I read about a book/week). And I'm always interested in checking out any the tech stuff. I also love being outdoors and I kind of think REI is like a giant candy store. Oh, and I love sleep. Waterskiing or traveling to some cool country are the only things that can get me up before dawn. My favorite trips were probably Egypt, China, and India. Right now, I'm working with a new tech start-up. We work long hours, but I love working on new stuff and being able to influence where we'll take the company next.

Why I am a Mormon

The simple answer to this is that I have prayed to a my Heavenly Father, and received a personal witness that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that Thomas S. Monson, the President of the LDS church, is His Prophet on the earth today. The more complex answer is that I first gained my testimony because I am fascinated by ancient history. I grew up as a member of the church. When I graduated from high school, I believed, but hadn't ever really searched out the truth for myself. In college, I studied ancient history and was particularly fascinated by the ancient cultures in the Middle East: Persia, Assyria, Egypt, etc. I decided I was going to read the Old Testament from cover to cover. As I read through, I referenced various opinions about it's contents, I compared it to the Book of Mormon, and Doctrine and Covenants (a compilation of revelations from early LDS church history). It changed my life. I knew that these prophets had lived. I knew that they had testified of Jesus Christ as the Messiah. And as I read about what modern day prophets and apostles of the LDS church had said about these scriptures, I knew that these men held the same revelatory power as Abraham, Isaac, Moses, Isaiah, and other prophets of the past. I know our Heavenly Father loves us. I know he loves me. And I know that he provides direction in my life through personal revelation, and revelation given to a modern day Prophet, President Monson. It's amazing, humbling, and uplifting all at the same time.

How I live my faith

Being a member of the church can be hard. We live our religion daily. I pray several times a day and read my scriptures for 30 min a day. To help in with my local congregation, I work with women ages 12-18, planning various activities and helping them learn and grow. I attend church on Sundays for three hours, in addition to attending various events for my congregation during the week. And I love it. I love being a member of a religion that has a daily influence in my life. It keeps me grounded, and focused on what really matters in my life. I feel my Heavenly Father's love and influence daily, and that keeps me going when things are tough.
