Hi I'm Katie

I'm a wife, a mother, a fitness and yoga instructor, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to be in the mountains. I married my husband because of many things, but he really won me over when he took me on backpacking, rock climbing, skiing, kayaking, and canyoneering adventures. I love to travel and meet new people. My husband is pursuing a PhD in Aerospace Engineering at a University. I am raising our two adorable boys ages 2 and 3. I received a degree in Fitness Management and worked in a corporate fitness & wellness program for nearly 5 years. I currently teach group exercise classes in my community. I served an 18 month mission in Munich Germany when I was 21 years old. It has been a key experience in my life ever since. I participate in a German Language Playgroup, a German discussion group, a women's book group, and am very active in the community planning activities, events and spending time with neighbors and friends. I love meeting and getting to know people from all walks of life!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it makes me happy! I have a lot of hope in my life due to the gospel. I feel that although challenges come, I have great reason to be hopeful and grateful for the future.

How I live my faith

I try to live as Christ taught. To love others and be constantly striving to have peaceful, happy relationships. I think that is what life is all about. I attend church meetings each Sunday, teach a Sunday School class for 3 year old children, pray daily and read scriptures each night before going to bed. Living the commandments and being active at church help remind me that I am a Child of God and of my goal to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

We live by a commandment called "The Word of Wisdom" which includes health guidelines given by the Lord to Joseph Smith in 1833. We believe that living by these codes of health will bring spiritual blessings as well as physical strength. Show more Show less

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Temples are very sacred places where we are taught the gospel and make covenants with our Heavenly Father. A marriage sealed in the temple by the priesthood is an eternal marriage. If the couple remains true to their promises to the Lord, they can be together forever as husband and wife. Everyone is invited prepare to enter the temple and receive the blessings of the temple. You can ask missionaries how to prepare yourself to enter the temple. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

All members of the church take part in the church organization by volunteering their time and talents to the church. This includes bishops of the church, who volunteer their service for a season, which is usually 5 years, in addition to working a normal occupation to provide for their family. I believe that the Lord organized his church this way to allow everyone to learn and grow as they take part in serving each other. Serving in the church is an instrumental part of the Mormon way of life.  Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

The abiding peace and happiness that I feel because of the beautiful truths I have learned at church has been the most priceless gift to me. If I keep that to myself, I am very selfish. Although sometimes difficult to feel like there is a right moment to share these important truths, I have a sincere desire to share them with others so that they might enjoy that same happiness that I have. Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Mormons help people of all faiths and continents. The humanitarian efforts of the church span the globe and include natural disasters, and volunteer efforts around the world. In my community I have often helped with service projects for orphanages, elderly and others not of our faith. We also make a considerable effort to know and care for people within our church who need assistance, love and care. Show more Show less

How can I find someone to talk with, in person, about the Mormon religion?

I think best way to learn more about the church is to come to Sunday meetings and meet with the missionaries. Missionaries are volunteer members of the church who can come visit you in your home, or in the home of a member of the church you know. www.mormon.org has a lot of great resources including a meetinghouse locator. You can also call the church at 1-800-438-7557 and ask them to have missionaries visit you.  Show more Show less

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Yes! 3 Nephi 11 in the Book of Mormon records this amazing event. It is so neat to read, to feel and know that Jesus Christ loved all the people of the world, appeared to them, taught them and blessed them. He established his church among them, just as he did for those in Jerusalem. It helps to clarify his work and his teachings to read this testament along with the testimonies contained in the Old and New Testament Show more Show less
