Hi I'm Cheya

I was a special education teacher. Now I help improve state goverment. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

As a single, 30-something who works 9 to 5, I seek a lot of creative outlets. Sometimes my creative comes out in the form of singing and dancing (which has led me to a short-very short-audition at American Idol, and more importantly to ensemble roles in a couple community theater musicals). I also get creative fulfillment in hosting dinner parties and planning social entertainment for groups. In addition, I have recently discovered a passion for healthy eating which includes inventing all sorts of new recipes and using my industrial strength blender on a new veggie creation practically every day. I love creating. I love learning. I love people. I love life!

Why I am a Mormon

For me it starts with recognizing truth. During the hardest times of my life and during the amazing miraculous times too, I've turned to God in prayer and learned that He always listens and always helps. There is a unique feeling that comes into me when I pray with sufficient intent andm, although I can't adequately describe it, I can say it is akin to being filled with light and joy. It feels like I'm resonating with more life than usual. As I've become more familiar with that feeling and have come to recognize it as the Spirit I know it is one of the ways the Lord speaks to me in life, Spirit to spirit. The time I feel that Spirit strongest is during General Conference. When the leaders of church and the Prophet speak publicly during General Conference it somehow seems they are talking to only me. The Spirit that accompanies the words I hear hits my heart so powerfully that it answers any question I write down, dispels any worry I may have harbored, and resonates repeatedly to my that this is of God. I know this church and the Prophet are from the same God who sends the Spirit when I pray because I recognize the feeling. And that same Spirit impresses upon me during conference, with feelings stronger than words, that Christ is my Saviour and that this is His Prophet and Apostles in modern times and they can teach me, lead me to spiritual protection, show me the happiest way to live, and help me find the way back to my Father in Heaven.

How I live my faith

On a regular basis I read scriptures and pray every day, and attend church on Sunday with the ward, and attend special temple services a few times per month. This year I have a special responsibility doing the most exciting work in the church! I was asked to teach seminary to the 14-15 year olds in my stake. This means that Monday-Friday, at 6:30am, I get to lead a class full of angel-faced, teenaged-youth in scripture study and lessons before they head to the rough and busy high school life. I feel so lucky! I also enjoy the friendship of many of the members of my ward. I visit a few sisters each month at their homes to get to know them better and make sure they are taken care of. Sometimes I sing in a ward choir and in past years I've been in charge of planning dinners and activities for the ward.
