Hi I'm Wiley

I was born and raised in Alaska. I love the outdoors, the sciences, and reading really good books. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised by a loving family in a not so small town in Alaska. Growing up I fell in love with anything that made me think. This passion drove me to study physics and get my Bachelors degree in that field. I also love the beauty of the outdoors and the emotional, physical, and spiritual stimulation that spending time in the wilderness brings. I'm always up for an adventure and have recently started rock climbing. I love reading and learning about new things. I'm really good at having random and off the wall conversations. Presently I am serving a mission in Idaho to bring what I know to others. This gospel has blessed me and brought me true peace and happiness.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church but fell away when I turned 19. I spent a great deal of time searching for peace amongst the other faiths that exist in order to fix the feelings of loss and pain I had. Eventually I fell into the Nordic Pagan belief system that fit my perception of the universe at that time even though it did not bring the peace I wanted. When I was 23 a friend persuaded me to try coming back to church with them. While sitting in the Chapel trying to avoid notice I felt something deep inside me. A short time later I knelt down and asked in sincere prayer to know if God was there and if Jesus was the Christ. At that time I received a spiritual confirmation that brought to me the peace that had eluded me for so long. I know that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and Savior of the World. I know that God loves each one of us no matter our past. I know this is his church restored to the earth, and I know that you can know it to. I'm a Mormon because the gospel is true and it brings peace and joy to my heart, mind, and soul.

How I live my faith

There are many ways I live my faith. Currently I am doing so by serving a full time mission to bring the peace and happiness I have felt to others. I do all i can to help others around me as I try to teach and serve them. I live this gospel by being an example to others and showing them what I believe in my daily actions. I believe that leading a good and wholesome life is a blessing to yourself and to those around you. By doing small and simple things for those around me I know that I can brighten their day and help them through the struggles in their lives. The works of God are many and great. I study the scriptures daily, and study His works and creation often. The universe we live in is a vibrant and living testimony of the existence of God. I study the universe and the laws that govern it in order to learn more of our loving Heavenly Father who created all things. I live my faith by loving my fellow man and all of Gods creations, by learning all I can about Him, and show my love for Him and His gospel by following the example of His son, Jesus Christ, in my daily life.

In whom should we have faith?

We need to have faith in God the Eternal Father and in His Son Jesus Christ. It is only by finding, developing, and building that faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, that we can grow closer to our Heavenly Father and take full advantage of the atonement of His Son. As we develop faith in Christ we will better understand the plan that our Heavenly Father has for us and feel His love more in our lives. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

We believe that baptism is essential in order for men to return to their Heavenly Father. We also believe that it is possible for those who did not get the opportunity to hear of, learn of, and accept Christ in this life will be given that opportunity before the day of judgment. God loves each of us so much and wants us to return to him so he made it possible for all men to return to him even if they weren't born in a place or time when the gospel of Jesus Christ was being taught. In order for his children who accept Christ after this life to return to him they also need to be baptized. Since they no longer have bodies someone else needs to perform the baptism for them and in their behalf. When we perform those baptisms in the temple we are giving God's children the opportunity to return to him. Show more Show less
