Hi I'm Tyler

I'm an extreme outdoor adventures kind of guy and consistently try to do the impossible. One of eight kids, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Currently I am working on finishing something in school. I have hanged between medical school, entrepreneurship, exercise science, and many other things. I have finally settled on philosophy because it is the only thing that doesn't drive me crazy to study in school. To me education is teaching you how to think not what to think. I am an extreme sport enthusiast and you will probably find me rock climbing on any given day of the week. May take up ice climbing this winter too...we will see! I also have a deep love for rugby and played on a nationally recognized team throughout highschool. Exercise and the outdoors are my remedy to "kill my inner demons." If I'm not at home there is a good chance that I am exploring in the mountains. As much as I do not like the cold weather in Utah I just can't seem to get away from these majestic mountains. In the outdoors I find it is much easier to feel Gods presence as you view the beauty of His artwork. It's a shame that we live in such a fast paced world and often miss the most beautiful expressions of Gods love because we are moving so quickly from one activity to another. I thrive in challenging environments and seek to constantly push myself to do what others think is impossible.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that God lives and loves us just as much today as He loved His children thousands of years ago. Growing up I always felt inadequate and unworthy of the Saviors love. I heard stories of his forgiveness and felt that he could forgive everyone else, just not me. As I continued to learn more about the Atonement through reading the Bible and the Book of Mormon I came to lean that His love extended even to me. As I realized this it gave me courage to repent of my sins and change who I was. With his help I felt the power to overcome the sins that were plaguing my life. I came to realize that I was a son of God with Divine worth and infinite potential. I saw myself with that royal heritage and was determined to live up to it. I am a Mormon because living the teachings of Jesus Christ as taught in the scriptures and by His modern prophets and apostles has brought me hope and happiness to enjoy the journey if life. I know by the power if the Holy Ghost that Jesus Christ lives and loves me. And that He restored Hid church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to give us the guidance we need today to prepare for His Second Coming.

How I live my faith

I live my faith not just be believing but by doing. I begin and end each day with a prayer and I study the scriptures daily to look for guidance. I strive to serve God's children wherever I am and try to "go about doing good". I also serve within the church to wherever He calls me to serve. I strive to do as He would do, say what He would say, and go where He would have me go. I listen to His voice. I try to remember that the greatest and most important commandments are to love God and love my neighbor. "On this hangs all the law and the prophets" or in other words, Gods while reason for giving us commandments is to teach us how to love Him and love those around us. The whole point of this life is to learn how to treat each other. Don't misunderstand me when I say this, but God doesn't care if your keeping the letter of the law (scripture study, prayer, tithing, etc.) unless you are training your heart to love Him and be kind to His children. The whole point of all the outward things He asks us to do is to help us become like Him (perfectly loving, kind, understanding, etc.).

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Study it out in your mind and in your heart. Ponder on the teachings of the Church. Read from the Book of Mormon. Study it. Then, pray and ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if its true. You are His child and He will answer you if you have a sincere heart (really want to know), real intent (intend to act on the answer He gives), and Faith in Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The Word of Wisdom is a way we can show God that we are willing to obey all of His commandments, even when we might not understand them. In essence, it is a health code. God has asked that we abstain from Tobacco, Coffee, Alcohol, Tea, and Illegal drugs (or abusing perscription drugs). And to take in lots of fruits, grains, veggies, and meat (sparingly). He created our bodies, He knows whats best for them. I trust God over man. Show more Show less

Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

Authority is a necissary part of all our lives. Think about the city you live in. What would it be like if you took out all of the police men? Chaos. They are given authority to administer the penalties of breaking the law. Likewise, Jesus Christ gives people His authority to administer saving ordinances such as Baptism by immersion. Without authority, although God sees that you are trying to follow Him, it is not bound in Heaven. Look at the example of the Sons of Sceva. Show more Show less

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Yes He did. Jesus Christ is the Savior of the whole world. God gave His Son because He loved the world. Just as Christ told his disciples, "And other sheep I have which are not of this fold: them too must I bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold and one shepherd" -John 10:16. We learn through the Book of Mormon that the people in America were those other sheep that He spoke of (3 Nephi 15:21). Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Mormon missionaries proselyte because there are many that are kept from the truth because they know not where to find it! If you aren't coming to us, we are going to come to you and try and help you find out how you can strengthen your relationship with Jesus Christ by accepting His restored Gospel. Imagine if you had found a cure for cancer. There are many different "treatments" but you have the CURE. How badly would you want to go out and share it? Likewise, there are many different "treatments" for spiritual sicknesses, but we have the CURE! We are trying to share it. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Absolutely! I believe God is the same Yesterday, Today and Forever. So, just like He has always done in the past, He has revealed His gospel in its fullness through a living prophet today. God gave His authority to this prophet and through him revealed His will and continues to do so today. As soon as people reject prophets and fall away from their teachings denominations begin to form, just like in the time of Jesus. It brings comfort knowing that God speaketh, not spake. That He liveth, not lived. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

The Priesthood is God's power and authority given to man on Earth to help us serve those around us. It is the same authority that the Apostles of the New Testament used to heal the sick and preform saving ordinances such as Baptism. Did Moses part the Red Sea by his own power? Obviously not. It was God's power. The same power that the Apostles used to heal the sick and to baptize. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

There is nothing secret going on in the Temples. Only sacred work. It is a very sacred place, the litteral House of the Lord on this earth. And only those who are living worthy may enter. We must keep the Lord's house clean. Just like Jesus Christ had to cleanse the Temple from the money changers, those who enter the Temples today must be keeping themselves spiritually clean.
