Hi I'm Melanie

I'm a student who loves learning & loves adventures. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a graduate student who loves the outdoors- surfing, snowboarding, skateboarding, soccer, sailing & spending time with my family & friends. I love traveling and I'm always up for an adventure. I love making new friends and getting to hear their stories. I'm studying to be a Physical Therapist and can't wait to meet lots of new people and help them through their rehabilitation and get them back on their feet.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up going to the Mormon church, but like most of us who grew up in this church, there is a pivotal moment when we realize for ourselves that this is truly Christ's church on the earth. For me, it came in a hospital bed in the intensive care unit when I had numerous broken bones, collapsed lungs, burns on my torso and face, and staples holding together a large portion of skin where metal had gone through my back and lacerated my internal organs leaving me bleeding internally and awaiting a transfusion. My father arrived and with another member of our church, he gave me a blessing that I would be healed and that I would go on to live a healthy life. I felt a feeling of peace and comfort that everything would be okay despite the fact that I couldn't move my feet, I could hardly breathe, and I was hooked up to more machines than I could keep track of. The very next imaging scan the doctor did revealed that the bleeding had stopped and was no longer pooling in my body. Those who saw me pinned halfway inside and halfway underneath the car said it was a miracle I was alive. I know it was too, and that miracles still happen today, I am one of them. I know it was by the blessing I was given and God's plan for me here on earth that I made it through. As I have continued to be faithful and follow the teachings of this church I am constantly reassured of its truthfulness and feel so many blessings in my life because of it. I believe I was given another chance to stay on this earth so I could serve the Lord by serving others and I am so thankful for everyday that I am here and have the opportunity to do so.

How I live my faith

I help with our woman's organization in the church and help to plan activities that will build friendships and help with self improvement and personal enrichment and bring us closer to Christ.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

My friends have asked me before if Mormons believe in the Bible, and I tell them: absolutely! They also ask me what the Book of Mormon has to do with the Bible. I like the analogy of having a sign with an arrow on it, and nailing it to the wall with only one nail. Anybody can come along and flip that sign upside down or in any direction & that can lead to a lot of confusion. I see the Book of Mormon as that second nail that holds the arrow sign in place- you know exactly which direction you're heading and it can't be misconstrued. The Book of Mormon and Bible are both Holy Scripture that we regard as the word of God. The Book of Mormon gives us an account of the people of the ancient Americas and Christ's visit to them after his resurrection. With these two books, the gospel principles are much more clear to me and answer a lot of the questions many people have about basic principles that may not be so clear in just one book alone.
