Hi I'm Jesse

I run and play basketball and Juggle. I read x-rays. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I recently had our sixth baby. Things are great with my family. I work as a radiologist (x-ray doctor) in a small town in Alaska.

Why I am a Mormon

Luckily I was born into the church. I can never remember NOT knowing that this is Christ's true church. I want to live my faith the best I can to show my Heavenly Father my love for him.

How I live my faith

In the church, I am in the stake presidency (that's like being the vice president for a group of 3,000 Mormons). I spend a lot of my time helping other leaders in the church knowing what they should do to help people. Because the area I that live in is so spread out, I spend a lot of time traveling to visit church congregations on Sunday - some places require 4 hours of travel by car and plane! Luckily, we can meet with far-away members by web-conference too.

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Since we have no paid clergy, there is no conflict of interest. When people teach lessons or deliver sermons they just focus on teaching the truth from their own experience. The first thing on their mind is: "How can I most effectively help others improve their lives and come closer to Christ?" A thought of: "I can't teach that truth because it is difficult to hear and I might not get paid as much" never enters into their mind. Mormons believe in hard work. We have our day jobs and then spend time working in the church in various capacities. People are called by inspiration to work in the church in one assignment for a few months or maybe even a decade - until they are released (asked to serve in a different way). Because everyone contributes in their own way, the church has a vibrant and community feel - like we are in this together, working for the same things. Show more Show less
