Hi I'm Shannon

I'm a teacher. I'm a student. I'm a single thirtysomething. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

The theme of my life seems to be starting over...again. I grew up in a military family that moved frequently--even for military standards. I had a successful career in the customs brokerage business before I traded up to fulfill my dream of becoming a teacher. Currently I am attending an online university by night and substitute teaching by day.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I have come to know for myself that this is the true gospel of Jesus Christ. My entire life I have been a deeply spiritual person. When I was fourteen, I was having a particularly difficult time. In the course of one year, we lived in four different places and I felt very alone. Through prayer and through reading the Book of Mormon, I came to know--not just believe--that I was a daughter of God and that he loved me and that I would never truly be alone. This knowledge has become an anchor to my soul as I have traveled this journey through life, as yet, without a husband and children of my own. Although many see the way we live as very demanding and restrictive, I know that it is God's plan of happiness for His sons and His daughters. He will always be there for us!

How I live my faith

Being a single woman in a very family-oriented Church can be difficult. I make sure that I do not become invisible by making friends with women from all walks of life. I try to look and see who might be sitting alone and go and sit with them. I currently have the opportunity to teach and serve the young women, aged 16-18, in our congregation. I love working with these beautiful, intelligent daughters of God. I hope that I remind them that they have unlimited potential and that by cultivating a friendship with our Savior, Jesus Christ, they too will never be alone.
