Hi I'm Donetta

I am a mother of 5, a grandmother of 9, grew up on a farm in Idaho, but love city living and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I come from a family of 7 kids, me being the exact middle. We all grew up on a pig farm in Idaho. It was there that I learned the value of hard work. It was there I learned from my mother how to sew, can our garden fruits and vegetables, clean house, and make meals. My father taught me to work hard, whether it was hauling hay, feeding our pigs, or changing the water on the land that we irrigated. Once I became a mother I, in turn, taught my own 5 children the value of work. I love working hard and accomplishing lots in my day, I'm Donetta and I'm a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

As a small child, I did what my parents did and taught me. They taught me to believe in Jesus Christ and to go to church. I never saw my parents do anything wrong so I thought they knew everything. As I began the process of growing up and learning independence I experienced things that helped me decide what to believe in. My mother helped me learn modesty in my dress and helped me develop good habits by choosing modest clothes at an early age. Little by little I was making more choices and decisions for myself and realized that I could do what I wanted and what I wanted was to live like my parents. As the years passed I found more connections to the spirit and confirmations that the choices I was making were right. It became easier and easier to make correct choices and to choose the right. For me it wasn't anything big that helped me to believe it was just little things time after time that helped me realize that when we do what is right and listen to the Spirit, we find true happiness. I am so thankful for a mother and a father who took the time to teach their family and to lead out by example for their family, me included, to follow.

How I live my faith

I have been blessed to work with the young women ages 12-18 years of age in our church for 30 plus years. It brings so much joy to me to mentor those gals and to help them figure out who they are and to help them make good life choices that will take them closer to their Heavenly Father. They in turn have blessed my life by living the principles I have taught them and by reinforcing those principles back into my life as I raised my own children. They have offered to me their trust and I in return have reaped the benefits of lifetime buddies and friends in so many wonderful girls that I treasure to this day.

What is the Relief Society?

So what is it like for me to be a member of Relief Society in today's modern world? I have lived in many states and have reached out to many women that I have worked with, lived near, or associated with. Women need each other and friendship in their lives. As a child I saw my own mother reach out to many women with a warm meal when it was needed or a shoulder to cry on. I too love those heart to hearts and have been willing to share my time with my neighbors, friends and associates. I have crafted, cooked and shopped with many women who just needed a friend. I in turn have learned tolerance, love, acceptance and gleaned wonderful friendships! Show more Show less
