Hi I'm Gary

I am a Georgia native, father of eight, a retired telephone man, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Being retired I have more time to do the things I enjoy. I have a large raised bed garden. This allows me to share with my children and some of the widows in my congregation. I also enjoy fishing with my sons and grandsons. My wife and I enjoy working on our Family Histories and can frequently be found tromping through the woods to old cemetaries to search out our relatives.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up, my family did not attend church. I met and married a Mormon girl. As I met other members of the Church I was impressed with their faith and desire to do good. We invited the missionaries over. As they taught me the message of the Gospel, I prayed about it and felt very strongly that it was true. When I was invited to be baptized, the Spirit cofirmed to me that it was the right thing for me to do. I used to wonder why we needed the Church in our lives. After I was baptized, and we began to go to church together, I told my wife, "Now I know what happiness is." My membership in the Church has brought me a great deal of peace and joy over these last 40 years.

How I live my faith

I am currently the Cub Scout Den Leader for the Webelos Den in our congregation. It gives me great satisfaction to work with these young boys as they grow and mature. These boys are ten years old and very teachable although I probably learn more from them than they learn from me! Over the years I have had other opportunities to serve in the Church. These Church assignments have given me tremendous growth and helped me to develop my talents. I can look back and see how much I have learned and how my life has been blessed from this Church service.

Are Mormons Christians?

All it takes for someone to see that Mormons are Christians is to read the Book Of Mormon. Each of the prophets in the Book Of Mormon bears strong testimony of Christ as our Savior. It is taught very clearly in the Book Of Mormon that it is only through Jesus Christ that we can be saved and return to live with our Heavenly Father. If you are one of those who wonders if we are Christians, read the Book Of Mormon and find out for yourself.  Show more Show less
