Hi I'm Laurie

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a mom of 9 children. I have 3 (almost 4) married children, 3 children in college, and 3 children at home. My last child has had some health challenges. He was born with a rare condition called Blepharo-Cheilo-Dontic syndrome. He had multiple facial anomalies including cleft-lip and palate that required and will continue to require multiple surgeries. Having a child with health problems changed me in many ways. I believe I really learned a lot more about compassion for all people in all situations. I was raised on the west coast, Oregon and California. I was 1 of 2 Mormons at my high school. I went to BYU which was totally the opposite ratio. I graduated from BYU in interpersonal communications with a minor in psychology. Motherhood has been my life's work and I am grateful to have an education that helped prepare me for the complexities and responsibilities of this crucial role. I have lived in 10 states since getting married. I never want to leave my home, but when I do I say, "What if I would not have come to this place and met these wonderful people? I like dancing, racquetball, walking, sewing, gardening, reading, being with friends and family, and facebook.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family, but I love being a Mormon. I love reading the Book of Mormon. It brings me closer to Jesus Christ. My faith in Him strengthens as I live according to the teachings of the church. I have learned to rely on the Lord for peace and guidance. I feel His love and see his hand more and more as I have become more grateful for my blessings. Much of the good in my life has come from being heavily involved in church. Sunday worship, serving others, sacred music, and teaching the gospel have been a great source of joy. I love that this church has apostles and prophets that are witnesses of the Lord, Jesus Christ. The priesthood has been restored and because of that we can have the saving ordinances...baptism, the gift of the Holy Ghost, and eternal marriage to name a few.

How I live my faith

I pray, study the scriptures, attend church, I have been a teacher of students of all ages. I teach my own family at home in weekly family nights and whenever they have questions, or I have concerns. I try to apply the principles of Christian living in my life wherever I am. Because of my faith I try to choose the good things in life that would please my Heavenly Father. I try to be mindful of his children and how he would want me to serve them. I try to meet challenges and trials with faith and hope. I try to be of good cheer because I know that Jesus Christ is my savior.
