Hi I'm Rachel

I love to watch classic movies, volunteer with the elderly, and make people smile. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a family of eight- there's my two parents, five sisters, and me. We moved around a lot as I grew up so I've been able to experience living in a lot of different places. While it's been hard to start over again and again, I have absolutely adored the people I've met and the experiences I've had. I am now a college student studying Recreation Therapy and am loving every second. I hope to work in a retirement home after I graduate. I chose this as a future profession because I love the elderly- I love their stories, and wisdom and how cute they are! Along with volunteering with the elderly, I also love politics, folk, alternative, and rock music, classic movies (Audrey Hepburn anyone?), traveling and cooking. I dream to travel and experience the history, culture and foods of the world!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up Mormon, but through study and prayer, I know that it's teachings are true. I know that we have a Heavenly Father who knows and loves us individually. And because he loved us, he sent us his son, Jesus Christ to not only show us how to navigate safely and happily through this life full of disappointment and fear, but so that we can be in the presence of God again. I know that Christ sacrificed his life for us because he LOVES us infinitely. And I have felt that love countless times. It is amazing to know that the most powerful and infinite being in the universe loves and cares for us. We, who constantly mess up, and make mistakes. I know that because we are loved, Heavenly Father sent prophets to teach His word, so that we could progress and be happy. I know that He sent the prophet Joseph Smith to restore His gospel, when the earth didn't have the fullness of truth. I know that we still have prophets today who show us the best way to live so that we can be happy and feel the peace of God. I know Thomas S. Monson is the prophet today and leads the church with authority of God. I know the Book of Mormon is another testament of Christ and I have feel closer to Heaven when I read it. It has answered so many of my questions. I know that in addition to the Holy Bible, we can grow closer to Christ that we could do any other way. I have never felt so happy. Through the gospel of Christ, I am becoming more of the person I want to be, little by little. I know it's true!

How I live my faith

I've found that I have a happier day and can focus on being my best when I read my scriptures and pray daily. From the Bible and Book of Mormon I have come to know Christ better by reading about His works and what he has said. I've been rereading the New Testament lately and have adored reading about Saul and his journey to know the truth. I love how once he knew that Jesus was the Son of God, he dropped everything and went to share his knowledge with the world. I've decided to follow in Paul's footsteps and become a missionary. For the next year and a half, I'm putting my dating and school on hold to serve as a missionary in Tokyo, Japan. I am thrilled to be able to share with the people of Tokyo what makes me most happy- the gospel of Christ. I am sharing my belief and inviting them to learn more about Christ’s love for us and His gospel. I know this time in Japan will be difficult, but I know the opportunity to help people learn about their infinite worth and how much God loves them will be absolutely worth it.
