Hi I'm Doug

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married for 53 years to my sweetheart, Donna. We have seven children, 6 boys and one girl. I graduated from the University of Colorado in 1964, and went immediately on active duty in the army as Field Artillery Officer. I served two tours in Viet Nam and I retired in 1983. Then I went to law school at the University of Idaho, and spent the next 20 years as a prosecuting attorney in Moscow, Idaho, retiring in 2004. Donna and I then served a one year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. I then spent a year in Afghanistan 2006-7 gving legal training to Afghan prosecutors and criminal investigators. When I came home, we moved to Ohio, where we now are enjoying our retirement and being close to some of our 16 grandchildren. I have been a boy scout leader for many years. I also enjoy riding my motorcycle, especially to Patriot Guard and American Legion Riders evernts, woodworking and family history research. I am a counselor at the American Legion sponsored Buckeye Boys state and serve as an advisor in the Dayton Ohio East Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents and I invesigated the Church and were babtized when I was 14 years old. My conviction of the truthfulness of Joseph Smith's revelatory experiences and his prophetic mission in the restoration of the pure doctrines taught by our Savior, Jesus Christ and the priesthood authority required to administer the ordinances of the gospel has grown stronger over ther years. I know that this really is Christ's true Church. I know that through His atonement, we can be saved and that He lives. I testify that anyone who is honestly seeking truth will find it here, if there is honest study and prayer for affirmation. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. That book gives a true history of some of the early inhabitants of the American continent, and acts as a second witness, along with the Bible, of the divinity of Jesus Christ. It has been just over a year since my sweetheart finished her time on earth, and although I miss her greatly, I am constantly comforted by the fact that we really will be able to be together forever, because that is the Lord's plan and precious gift to us.

How I live my faith

I try to obey all of the commandments of the Lord, and to follow the counsel of His Prophets, both ancient and modern. I serve in church positions when called, right now acting as advisor to the leadership of one of our congregations, called a ward, and helping our missionaries. In our family, we study the scriptures and have frequent family prayer, and try to give service to others whenever we can. We do our best to keep the Lords Day (Sunday), by avoiding shopping, eating out or recreational activities on that day.
