Hi I'm Sam

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and a father, a manufacturing engineer, an inventor, a lifelong student of history and language, a cyclist, an outside hitter/setter (volleyball), a musician (novice), an organizer, and a do-it-yourselfer.

Why I am a Mormon

I know that God has guided me on numerous occasions during my lifetime. Through feelings of assurance and peace I have gained a personal witness of the truthfulness of his existence, the purpose of life, the scriptures, and specifically this church. The decisions I have made and continue to make to be a faithful 'Mormon' always seem to result in additional peace accompanied with spiritual and temporal blessings. The more I experience life and strive to live the teachings of Jesus Christ, the more my faith grows that Jesus is the Christ, and that he has once again restored his gospel on earth. My supplications to God to know whether Joseph Smith was a prophet and whether or not the Book of Mormon truly is divine scripture have been answered the affirmative. As I continue to read and learn, my testimony on these matters only strengthens. I love the gospel of Jesus Christ, I love the peace it provides me, this is hIs church.

How I live my faith

Because I believe in Jesus Christ and in his restored church, I feel it an obligation and a blessing to strive to live my life in a way that appropriatly represents him. I strive to love and help those with whom I interact at work, in the community, and at church. Being a member of this church has given me so many incredible opportunities of service and growth. When my wife and I moved to the city where we currently live, we were each assigned a few families in our congregation to visit and care for and get to know. We have been able to serve them and assist them with our talents, but at the same time they have set incredible examples to us of faith and perseverence in the most difficult circumstances. They have become wonderful friends.

Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

Sam
It is so clear to me that God is a God of wisdom and order. The movements of the planets, the cycle of life, the organization of cells, plants, and animals all witness this to me (Alma 30:44). It is of no wonder that God has established an orderly way for us to learn and grow in life. It is no wonder that he established his church in ancient times and restored it in these latter days. His church is an orderly way to help us along in our progression here on earth. This progression is symbolized by key steps that we take called ordinances. Accompanied with the ordance is a covenant. The first ordinance that we perform is called baptism. When we are baptized we covenant with God to follow his teachings. He promises us the companionship of the Holy Ghost. Whenever his church has been established on earth, he has called and authorized individuals to administer ordinances. It is so simple and orderly. These baptismal covenants are sacred and important, of course they must be performed accordingly and by the proper authority. Show more Show less
