Hi I'm Kelly

I'm born and raised in California and can't imagine living anywhere else.

About Me

I rescue and rehome exotic pet birds, enjoy my dogs, and enjoy cooking. I also like to volunteer my time and share what I can with those less fortunate. I consider myself thoroughly blessed, and this church saved my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I’m sure I've always been a Mormon at heart. I was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in high school through a best friend. I associated with Mormons while preparing for the Y2K crisis that didn’t happen. I found myself at the Family History Center, working with Mormons again while doing my genealogy. The missionaries came to my door at a very fortuitous time. I am thankful we have a prophet today who can help guide us. I know that there are many things in life I can do better, but I know that by striving to live the teachings of the gospel, I will improve at those things and others. I have the hope of being together for time and eternity with my family because I have accepted the truths of the gospel into my life, and that is why I am Mormon.

How I live my faith

I love going to Sacrament meeting on Sundays to renew my covenants. I’m an active participant in Relief Society, and volunteer at the Family History Center, Bishop's Storehouse and Cannery. I try to be a good example of love and kindness and do those things that Christ would have me do.

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Dressing for church should be a reflection of our reverence and respect for God. We dress modestly in our “Sunday Best”. Mormons celebrate the two main Christian holidays of Easter and Christmas, which mark the resurrection and birth of Christ, respectively. They also celebrate national and regional holidays, along with birthdays and anniversaries. Pioneer Day, celebrated on July 24 of each year, celebrates the first entry of Mormons into Salt Lake Valley in 1847, after the long journey westward to escape religious persecution. April 6th is observed in remembrance of the organization of the Church of Christ in 1830 by Joseph Smith. Show more Show less

What is the Relief Society?

The Relief Society was founded in 1842 by Joseph Smith. It had two main purposes: to provide relief for the poor and needy, and to save souls. The organization continues today staying true to those original guiding purposes. As a sister in Relief Society, you are a member of a worldwide sisterhood, united in devotion to Jesus Christ. You join with other daughters of God as a woman of faith, virtue, vision, charity, with the sure knowledge that your life has meaning, purpose, and direction. Through your participation, you have opportunities to enjoy companionship, give meaningful service, share your testimony and talents, and grow spiritually. Show more Show less

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

Self-reliance is important to us because if we want to be in a position to help others, our own needs must be taken care of first. Avoiding unnecessary debt, preparing for a disaster, saving extra money and food is not just a recommendation by church leaders and experts alike, it's common sense. Show more Show less
