Hi I'm Heather

I'm a Californian Mormon but I married an Alaskan.

About Me

I come from a farming family of six children. I grew up driving tractor, playing violin and piano, singing, and playing sports. I recently graduated from college in print journalism and now work for a magazine, but I still find time to participate in sports and go hiking as often as possible. I met my Alaskan husband in college and since then, outdoor adventure has taken on a whole new meaning. We spent the last summer chainsawing trees in the Alaskan forest, and I learned how to four-wheel hence, the profile picture.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents and my parents' parents are Mormon. I never questioned being Mormon until I moved away from home and had to start making my own decisions. I decided to find out if I really believed my Mormon faith was true then. I began to really study the scriptures on my own and to say prayers that really came from my heart. My testimony didn't come all at once, but little by little, my personal faith in Jesus Christ and my faith that this is His Church grew. For me, my decision to be Mormon came from a culmination of months and years of feeling in my heart that what I was learning, studying, and living was true. Today, I continue to follow His gospel because when I do, I am at my happiest, no matter what may be happening in my life. What keeps me going is continually strengthening my testimony through those things that built my testimony in the first place--studying the Bible and Book of Mormon and praying to my Heavenly Father daily.

How I live my faith

Right now, I run the book club for my ward. It's an opportunity to help the women in the ward friendship one another, while also increasing literacy. Over the years, I've acted the part of Church pianist, secretary, activity coordinator, and many other parts. Each day, I try to do what I know Jesus would have me do, including showing love for those around me and keeping my mind, body, and spirit clean.
