Hi I'm Tom

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a retired Naval Officer. I served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years as a Surface Warfare Officer and was Commanding Officer of two ships. I am a divorced father of two great sons. My favorite hobby is family history.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints about 20 years ago. I was raised in a Pentecostal church and I still love the members of that church. My upbringing gave me a strong foundation in the Bible, but there were some questions that it did not answer adequately for me. I always believed in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, but I could not accept the story that they were one entity. Revealed scripture in the LDS church teaches that they are three separate entities, but they are one in purpose. I also could not accept the belief of my old church that people who died without ever hearing the name of Jesus were consigned to hell. The LDS church has taught me that everyone will have the opportunity to hear the gospel in this life or the next. They will have the opportunity to accept the gospel or reject it before the final judgement.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving my fellowmen. We have a scripture that says when you are in the service of your fellow beings you are in the service of your God. I have had a variey of responsibilities in the church. I have served as a leader of 11 year-old Boy Scouts and young men from 12 to 18 years of age; I have been a financial clerk; and I have served as a counselor to a Bishop.
