Hi I'm James Victor,

I was the 4th child in a family of 18 children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Professional Land Surveyor and have been since I got out of the US Army after surving in Viet Nam with the 101st Airborne Division. I was born and raised a Catholic and spent 3-1/4 years of high school in a Catholic seminary studying to be a priest. I knew the bible really well, Old and New Testament and I always felt there was something missing. So when the missionaries came by the house one day and started telling me about the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ I was ready to hear their message and be baptized.

Why I am a Mormon

When I read the Book of Mormon and prayed about it I received a testimony that it is true, it is the Word of God. I have never been happier and felt like I was doing God's Will more than I have since I was baptized a member of His Church. I look forward to General Conference every 6 months because I get to listen to the Prophets and Apostles that God has called to guide us in these latter days. When I listen to the Prophets and Apostles speak, almost invariably, it is like they are speaking directly to me and what is troubling me in my life. It never ceases to amaze me that God with all His infinite number of children all throughout the galaxies knows exactly what I need. All I have to do is live righteously, read His Word, keep His Commandments and try to the best of my ability to know and do His Will. It has not been very easy for me to do all these things though. I had a lot of personal problems that I had to work through. Only a year or so after I joined the church, I was excommunicated. It was extremely difficult to continue to go to church and not be able to receive the sacrament or participate fully, but I kept going because I knew the church was true. Eventually I was reinstated to full membership but only lasted about 5 years before I went inactive on my own, once again because of personal problems. I remained inactive for almost 10 years but all that time I never lost my testimony that I know the church is true and Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God. Today I am once again active in the church and happier than ever. I know that my Savior Jesus Christ died for me, to atone for my sins. I show Him how much I love Him by keeping his commandments and doing HIs Will.

How I live my faith

Each morning when I get up I start my day by reading my scriptures. In church on Sunday we spend an hour studying the scriptures. One year we study the Old Testament. The next year we study the New Testament. The next year we study the Book of Mormon and the next year we study the Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price. So the church’s schedule gives me some direction in which scriptures to read and study for the class the upcoming Sunday. Reading the scriptures first thing in the morning helps me get my day going in the right direction. I have my own business so I have almost total control over the level of honesty in my work and billing and I strive to be honest in all my dealings. I have a special calling in my church group to attend to the widows and I really enjoy being able to help out now and then these special ladies. Sometimes the widows will need help with plumbing problems or just cleaning up the yard. Whatever it is they need, I always feel it is a blessing to be able to help out. Because the Restored Gospel has brought such peace and joy and love into my life, I share my experience with those around me on a regular basis. I am the only member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in my family so I pray for my brothers, sisters and children that they will find the blessings of the Restored Gospel as well. I still have my short comings and trials that I deal with on a daily basis and I pray for strength and help in overcoming these. I have learned by experience that I can only be happy, truly happy, when I am doing God’s will. My job is to be attuned to the Spirit so I know what God would have me do today.
