Hi I'm Deric

I was a radio DJ in college, went to medical school and completed training as a psychiatrist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of 5 children born to school teacher parents. I grew up primarily in Pocatello, Idaho but have lived in California, Texas, Iowa, Utah and New Zealand. My father died of cancer before my first birthday but I was blessed with an amazing mother, siblings, aunts, grandparents, uncles, and friends who have been powerfully kind, nurturing and supportive influences in my life. My favorite activities include mountain biking and surfing. I married my beautiful, talented and kind wife, Julie, in 1989. We have 4 children (Corin, Mathias, Reece and Rex) and together we have enjoyed making them the top priority of our attention, efforts to establish a Christ-centered home. We enjoy socializing, working, exercising, laughing and striving to live Gospel centered lives.

Why I am a Mormon

Christ said that if we live as He taught then we would know of the truthfulness of His doctrine (John 7:17). I have and continue to receive spiritual manifestations of what is true, what is good and right. Further, I have had a witness that God lives and that Christ is the resurrected Savior of this world. We are here to learn to live by faith, to learn to become like Christ and to make sacred promises with God by one holding priesthood authority from God to perform saving ordinances (such as baptism) so that we can have peace in this life and to be able to live again with God and Jesus Christ, with our loved ones, in the life to come.

How I live my faith

I see my professional and personal life as giving me ample opportunity to be kind, giving, caring, compassionate, charitable, hopeful, trustworthy, honest and hopeful in my relationships with others. I am careful to not espouse my religious beliefs in professional settings except through the challenge of striving to live these principles every day. I believe in prayer, giving gratitude to God for all He has given me and for the tender mercies He continues bless me with each day. All people I meet have something to teach me and I am eager to help bless others in return with the talents and opportunities to serve others that I am given everyday. Above all, I want to invite others to learn for themselves, through a study of the holy scriptures and by the witness of the Holy Ghost, that God lives, that He is interested in and loves each of us as his spiritual sons and daughters, and to know that Jesus Christ invites all of us to come unto Him to receive peace and happiness through obedience to his teachings and the ordinances of salvation.
