Hi I'm Dave

I like to read, surf, snowboard and golf.

About Me

I was born in New Zealand and raised in Utah and Hawaii. I am married to the most wonderful and beautiful woman. We are hoping to adopt children.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because I learned that the Book of Mormon came from God and testifies of Christ. I read it and asked God if it was true and He told me. To some of my social scientist colleagues reading this, that may sound outlandish. I recognize that it is a strong statement, but if you are willing to open your heart, I will open mine and share what is one of my most personal and sacred experiences. I do this because I genuinely want to share with you and others the path I am living that has brought so much happiness and peace to my life. Here's my story. When I was 16 I was studying other faiths and wanted to find out if my Mormon faith was real. I decided to read the Book of Mormon. Surprisingly I finished it in less than three weeks and did what the prophet Moroni said at the end of the Book of Mormon (Moroni 3:3-5) and ask God if it was true. I was nervous about it. Why would God tell me? After some time, I remember being discouraged as I did not know how it would come. I kept praying and remember thinking, "God can do all things, He can tell me if this came from Him or not". It was about that time that I felt a beautiful warmth and happiness come over me that I had not felt--at least not to that degree. The best way to describe it was love. It was as if my whole body was full of love, full of love for God, and full of love for everyone. I remember laying on my bed and thinking, "wow, I want to feel this way always". I told my Mom had finished the Book of Mormon and I felt so happy. I felt like I was burning. She told me I was feeling the Holy Ghost. That was the first time I made a solid connection to what I had learned and read as a young man about the Holy Ghost. I could not deny the feeling I had and even now I feel the same warmth writing about it. The Spirit testifies of truth often through feelings (Galatians 5: 22-23) and that is how God communicates to me. I challenge you to read the Book of Mormon and ask God. He will answer.

How I live my faith

I firmly believe in the atonement of Jesus Christ and am so glad that we have a Savior. I live my faith trying to love my neighbor as Jesus said. I try to love my fellow man by serving in my community, being fair and honest in my business dealings, and respecting people of all faith. I have studied all of the major faiths to one degree or another and I respect all faiths as they have so many good things about them. I am not one to say "your faith is wrong" because your faith is not wrong, I simply invite all to learn about my faith and they too may find answers to their deepest questions and find what I have found--that the restored church of Jesus Christ is here on the earth.

Are Mormons Christians?

Yes. I know some of our Christian friends disagree, but I believe in Jesus Christ and have come to know him through reading the Bible and Book of Mormon. Show more Show less
