Hi I'm Mary

I grew up in West Texas. I'm a Ph.D. student and financial planner. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have lived all over the U.S. and recently moved to start my work as a Ph.D. student in Financial Therapy. I have worked as a lobbyist, financial planner, and most recently as a financial counselor and educator for the military. I teach Zumba and water aerobics in my spare time, and I love running, triathlons, and rodeos.

Why I am a Mormon

My faith makes me who I am. I am a better person because of the good things I learn about and follow, which are the teachings of Christ. As I study, ask questions, and ponder on the things I learn, things begin to make sense: why I am here, where I am going, and what my purpose is. I have a feeling of peace, warmth, and love in my life that comes from obeying the commandments of God. My religion is not just something I believe; it is a part of who I am.

How I live my faith

I'm currently working with the 12 and 13 year old young women in my church congregation. They are such a light in my life, and I'm so glad that I have the chance to help discover the world around them and how they fit in it. I also have the chance to visit four wonderful women every month that live in my area. It is a chance to talk with them and get to know them on a more personal level. It also gives me a chance to serve and give back to others.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Mary
Yes! The answer is YES, families can be together forever! I am a single adult, and I've been to many, many weddings over the years. Most of them have the words "till death do us part" or "as long as we both shall live". Mormons believe that marriages can last beyond this earth life and into the eternities. This is one reason we have temples. In the temple, a couple is married "for time and all eternity". I believe this is true, and I am waiting in anticipation for the day when I can enter into a temple with my sweetheart and be married for all eternity. I want to be with my family forever. Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Mary
No, we don't "worship" Joseph Smith; we revere him as a prophet of God. Much like prophets of old, such as Moses, Noah, and Abraham, Joseph Smith was a prophet in our day and time. He restored the gospel of Jesus Christ back on the earth after a period of apostasy. Since Joseph Smith, we have had a succession of prophets on earth today that continue to give us revelation and commandments from God for our time. Show more Show less
