Hi I'm Hyrum.

I want to be a professional soccer player when I grow up. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am from Bogota, Colombia. I moved to the United States 4 years ago. I am married. I am studying Political Science. I am a member of the National Guard. I love to watch and play soccer. I ran a marathon in my Army uniform. I like to do things outdoors. My favorite team is Atletico Nacional from Medellin. I was a missionary for 2 years in Santiago, Chile. I love sweet plantains, fruit, and salad. I collect authentic soccer jerseys. I like to dance. I have a lot of energy and like to entertain people around me. My wife thinks I'm funny.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were baptized 1 year after they got married. I grew up learning about basic principles, like faith, prayer, and the importance of family. During my youth I participated in many great programs--scripture study classes during the week, camp-outs, sports, etc. That, combined with my desire to follow Jesus Christ, helped me love going to church every week. Being a member of Christ's church has helped me know what I want out of life and how to be really happy.

How I live my faith

I get a lot of questions at school and in the Army about my religion. I like to listen to people and help them learn about God's plan.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Life is busy with work, school, and other responsibilities. Studying the scriptures helps me break out of the routine, and receive spiritual comfort. It helps me focus my thoughts on Jesus Christ, recognize all He has done for me, and gives me the desire to follow Him. Studying the Book of Mormon and Bible helps me change my perspective when I'm having a bad day. It gives me hope that I can do better and be better. Through the scriptures I can learn more about God's plan for me. This understanding helps me feel God's love. Show more Show less
