Hi I'm Elmer

I'm a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have family that I love and am a Professor at a University.

About Me

I'm a husband, father and grandfather. We have a large family with nine children, all of whom are over the age of 21. I am a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at a large research university, but I love to teach students and that has always been my primary focus since I left industry to become a professor. When I joined the LDS church I was shy and didn't enjoy getting up in front of a congregation or other large group and teaching, praying or speaking, so my life has changed dramatically in becoming a teacher. I have the gospel and Church of Jesus Christ, the Savior himself and the Holy Ghost to thank for my progress and position today. Life has not always been easy. My father died before I was born and my mom passed away when I was only three years old. Our wonderful 15 year old daughter was killed in 1997. We hold strong to our knowledge of the plan of salvation and literally know that we will see her and them again one day in the life that comes after this one.

Why I am a Mormon

Before age 25, I was a member of another Christian church. I was introduced to the Mormon church by a girlfriend when we went to the State Fair. The missionaries taught me and I believed because it felt like I already had known the doctrine that they taught me, even though it was different than the doctrine I learned in my church. My friends warned me about joining the LDS church, but I can say that becoming a member was the best decision of my life. It's been about 40 years now and I've never been sorry or thought it was a mistake to be baptized. I want you to know that I believe that the church is true, that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that President Monson is also a prophet today. I know that Jesus Christ lives today and is the actual leader of our church. His atonement allows us to be forgiven for our sins if we believe in him and repent. I love him very much.

How I live my faith

I have had many experiences because of the gospel. I've been a scoutmaster and worked many years in scouting over the past 40 years. I've been involved in community affairs as an elected precinct committee member. I've been a Bishop, Sunday School teacher, cubmaster, nursery worker and youth leader. I've worked in family history and served as a missionary. We've raised a successful family and all of us are committed to serving other people and trying to make this earth a better place to live in. We believe that by following Jesus in our daily life we can find happiness both in this world and the world to come. We want others to know that we believe in Christ and that they can find the same happiness that we have.
