Hi I'm Helen

I'm a mother of 4, grandmother of 14, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to read novels, especially the Harry Potter series and historical fiction. I love music and enjoying singing harmony, playing the piano and just listening to music. I love to create things. I make birthday cards for all of my family members and friends. I sew things for my home, like decorative pillows and curtains, and things for my grandchildren, like tooth fairy pillows, puppets, blankets and bean bag frogs. I love to be out in nature and enjoy the beauties of the earth.

Why I am a Mormon

My great-great grandparents joined the Church in the early days of the Church. I grew up with a knowledge of the Gospel, yet needed to gain my own witness that the Church is true. The summer I turned 18 I read the whole Book of Mormon for the first time and felt the spirit of this wonderful book. After praying about it, I knew it was true and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's true Church on the earth. Through many experiences during my life I know that God knows and loves me individually. He hears and answers my prayers and helps me in so many ways. I love knowing that I lived with Heavenly Father before I was born and that my life will continue on after my earthly death. I will see my parents and other loved ones who have passed away and will see my children and grandchildren again in the next life also. Priesthood ordinances such as baptism and those received in the temple are so important to me and are possible because the priesthood authority of the Savior is once again on the earth. I love my Savior, Jesus Christ. Through His Atonement I can be forgiven of my sins, gain strength to overcome my weaknesses and be resurrected. Reading the scriptures daily brings the Spirit into my life and helps me improve and live more like the Savior. I love the peace the Spirit brings into my heart and my life. Following the modern day prophet, Thomas A Monson helps me make wise choices in my life. The Gospel and my family are the two things I love the most and that bring me the greatest joy.

How I live my faith

I enjoy visiting other women in my neighborhood. For many years I helped with church classes and activities for children. I have been in leadership positions in the women's organization of the Church. I play the organ for our church meetings. Right now my husband and I work with the 11 year old scouts in our area. I worked with cub scouts for 6 years. I enjoy giving service to others and always look for opportunities to help others. I pray and read the scriptures daily and try to become more like my Savior. I spend time with my family and build family relationships. I served a mission to Paris France when I was young. My husband and I spent eighteen months in Ghana helping church members there. We are leaving soon for another eighteen months to help church members in Senegal.

What is the difference between attending a church and attending a temple?

Our church buildings are places of worship where members and visitors can pray, sing, learn more about the Gospel and partake of the Sacrament. There are also classes for children and teenagers. Our temples are literally the House of the Lord. Before a temple is dedicated other people may go inside during an open house. After the dedication only members who obey the commandments may go inside to perform sacred ordinances that are necessary for us to progress throughout eternity. Show more Show less
