Hi I'm Ashlie

I'm a future missionary, a Southern girl, an Alabama fan, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the American South, and I love the culture, people, and faith there. It's like you can taste the sweet gospel in the air when you land on Southern ground. Or it could just be the smell of barbecue. My parents instilled in me a love to learn and grow regardless of where I find myself in life. I push myself to excel at everything I do so that I can share those things with others. I love to spend time with friends and family and learn about other people, but I also love to be outside, play sports, listen to music, and read anything I can get my hands on. I strictly abide by the five main tenets of Southern culture: Faith, Family, Friends, Food, and Football. The more I speak with people that are different from me, the more I discover that we as sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father have much more in common than we have different.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it is the only way I can live my life with joy. There are many things that bring me fleeting happiness and pleasure, but the foundation of my testimony and conversion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the driving force behind all of my choices. My parents are both converts. They encouraged me to seek after all truth I could find, and they taught me to find my own witness and confirmation of those truths. I know that Joseph Smith was chosen and set apart as a prophet and an instrument in the restoration of the true church of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ lived, suffered, and died for us that we might know the way to return to our Heavenly Father. Our Heavenly Father is our literal father to our spirits, and He watches over us each day. He feels our pains and sorrows, but He also shares in our joys and triumphs. He desperately wants us to return to Him, and He established the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to help accomplish that purpose. I know that this church is the one true church that holds the authority of God, the priesthood, and that the ordinances thereof are still essential to our salvation and exaltation. Thomas S. Monson is the current prophet and president of the Church, and he holds the authority from God to operate in this calling and these responsibilities. I know the Gospel of Jesus Christ makes me a better person as I learn to obey the commandments of God and submit my will to that of my Heavenly Father. Without the light of Jesus Christ, I could do nothing good in my life. Being a Mormon allows me to receive more of this light and peace. The blessings are immense.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving as a Gospel Doctrine teacher in my home ward. I love it when I prepare a lesson and receive revelation and inspiration for my own life and also for the members of my class. I learn more and more each week how much our Heavenly Father loves His children as I see the way He guides me in my calling to serve them. I love going out with the missionaries! They help me become a better disciple of Jesus Christ and humble me with their service. I think the most important way I live my faith is by trying to emulate the example of Jesus Christ. He always sought to serve those around him and to demonstrate his love for them in word and deed. It is possible to love and respect all people of all backgrounds through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
