Hi I'm Alyssa

I am a mom, I love the outdoors and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Nome, Alaska. I come from a family of 7. I enjoying running, reading and spending time with my family. I ran cross country and track in college, I graduated a few years ago with a degree in Educational Interpreting (American Sign Language Interpreting). I am married and have three young children. Together as a family we enjoy spending time outside, playing games and watching movies.

Why I am a Mormon

I choose to be a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because of the happiness and many wonderful blessings it brings into my life. I know that if I remain faithful and follow our Heavenly Father's plan, I can return to live with Him again. I know that if I keep the covenants I have made, I have the opportunity to spend eternity with my family. My family means so much to me and I can't imagine what my life would be like if I didn't have them with me. I like having direction in my life. I know that when I leave this earth, it won't be the end. I have the opportunity the live with my Heavenly Father again and the be re-united with family members and friends.

How I live my faith

I have had the opportunity to teach the young children in our church. I love being able to share with them my testimony of the gospel. Little children are so eager to learn, I love seeing their faces light up when they understand what is being taught to them. I teach my own children at home the basic principles of our beliefs. It brings me so much joy to hear them talking about how much Heavenly Father loves them, or that Jesus died for us so that we can be happy. Even at a very young age they are able to understand how much our Heavenly Father loves us and that He wants the very best for us.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Alyssa
Yes! I love that about this gospel. My family is so important to me and I want to be with them for eternity, not just while we live here on this earth. Jesus Christ gave power to His disciples to seal families together forever when He said, “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19). When my husband and I were married, we were sealed to each other in one of our temples. By living worthily, staying true to the covenants we made with each other and our Heavenly Father and by accepting the Atonement of Jesus Christ we can be together again after this life. Not only with our spouses, but our children and other family members as well. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Alyssa
Prayer is such a powerful tool, through prayer we are able to commune with our Heavenly Father. In James 1:5-6 it says "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed." I remember when I knelt in prayer to ask my Heavenly Father if this church is true. I had faith that He would answer my prayer, and He did. I know that this church is true, and I encourage you to ask Heavenly Father in faith if it is true as well. Show more Show less
