Hi I'm Tim

I collect bugs, train horses, chase animals around in the woods, make jokes and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Tim and I have been told that I am still a kid a heart. I am a natural tease and play good practical jokes (at least I think they are good) and love to laugh. I enjoy sports, traveling and learning about new places, cultures and peoples. I read history and biographies of inspiring people. I have a passion for discovering new things. I am a nature enthusiast. I train horses and I love wildlife. I hike, hunt, fish and I explore. I find nature absolutely awe inspiring. My wife and I have a large family, 5 incredible children and (even better) 10 grandchildren. They are a huge part of my life and my motivation. I am a professional Entomologist and have studied insects full time for over 30 years. Even now, these little spineless wonders continue to amaze and fascinate me. Each has its own unique behavior, biology and appearance. Life is good for me when I take the time to observe, ponder and discover new things. Oh, and I am a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I guess you could say that as a scientist, I am all about discovering new truths, wherever they may be found. Two examples are: 1) I discovered and named new species of insect (a beetle) right here in the USA. 2) I discovered a source of direction, happiness and comfort in Jesus Christ that maintains me. I am convinced that His gospel presents a plan by which we all may find eternal happiness. Interestingly, both of these discoveries occurred AFTER I got on my knees and searched. I believe that everyone should be open to learn new truths. In fact, it is our duty to search, to experiment, to learn and then to adopt truths wherever we find them. That is what I do - and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

As a practicing Mormon, I believe in service. Service is what Jesus Christ taught through his example and is a way that I can help others. Giving back to our community and church is a way that I have found to truly help other people. I have worked as a coach for many youth sports teams, taught nature and conservation camps for young biologists, instructed in the Boy Scouting program, served as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for abused and neglected children. I have served on several boards for various community and state agencies including being elected to the local school board where I served 8 years. I have spent considerable time serving in my church in various roles including teaching and administration. I believe that I am following Christ when I help improve the lives and happiness of others and make this world a better place. I love the feeling that I get when I make a difference in someone's life. To me, the saying "This life is not about perfection but rather about progression" gives me hope that even I can succeed. I can improve myself, live better, serve more quickly and love more passionately. It is up to me. I can control all of that.
