Hi I'm Harry

I grew up in Tacoma Washington. I now own and manage a heavy construction company. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of six children. I work for a heavy construction company managing projects constructing roadways and underground utilities for cities, counties, and private utility companies. I play guitar and sing as a hobby, though I did play and sing in a band for about 10 years prior to my mission. Now I mostly sing with my wife for weddings and in church. We sing as a family and music is a huge part of our lives.

Why I am a Mormon

I was fortunate to be raised in the Church. I have always felt that the gospel was true, but prior to serving my mission, I had to find out for myself. If I was going to dedicate two years of my life to serving, be away from my family, and spend what money I had saved, I had to know it was true. As I have studied and prayed, and applied the principles of the gospel in my life, I have come to know with a calm peaceful assurance that the gospel is true. I feel so blessed to have had the gospel to provide me with stability in my life as I grew through the teenage years and into adulthood. I see the blessings that have come to me from living the gospel and am very grateful to my Father in Heaven that I have had the privilege.

How I live my faith

In the Church we don't have paid ministry, so we each receive callings to serve in some capacity. I presently have the privilege of serving as the Bishop of our ward (congregation). That means that I serve similar to a Pastor in another faith, yet I do it in evenings and weekends since I have a full time job outside Church. As Bishop, I also have two counselors who assist me with my responsibilities. Together we conduct the worship services and help staff the orgainzations of the ward. I get to speak to the congregation some times, other times I ask members of the congregation to prepare talks and they speak and share their testimonies. In this way we grow and learn together and gain strength from each other. I have been serving in this capacity for about four years now, and I am loving it. I get to spend alot of time with the youth and they are awesome! The challenges they face in the world are difficult, but it is wonderful to hear how the gospel helps strengthen them against the temptations of the world.

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

One way we can do this is to teach the sacredness of our bodies that Heavenly Father has given us...and particularly the sacred power of procreation. We can teach the blessings that come to a marriage by keeping ourselves clean and pure for our mates. Also understanding that we need to keep our thoughts pure to enjoy the Spirit more closely in our lives. If we let darkness into our lives, the Spirit or the light, is forced to leave. This leaves us feeling alone and distant from our Father in Heaven. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Yes we do. We love the Bible. We believe it is the word of God as far as it is translated correctly. We study the Bible along with the Book or Mormon. The bible is one witness of Jesus Christ, and the Book of Mormon is a second witness that Jesus is the Christ...the Son of God the Father. Show more Show less
