Hi I'm Garner

Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, I am now living in Houston, Texas. I am a husband, father of two, attorney and a Mormon

About Me

I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah but now call Houston, Texas home. Growing up I loved playing sports my favorite of which is basketball. I am now married to my beautiful wife and have three vibrant children ages 6, 3 and 1. Life gets busy but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born to parents who were members of the LDS Church, I keep my membership because I believe in the teachings of the LDS Church. Few would disagree that this life is full trials and challenges that test our faith and resilience. The foundation and perspective provided by the gospel of Jesus Christ as taught in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has given me the strength and tools to meet those trials and challenges. I can honestly say that as I have applied those teachings, I have seen the doctrines come to life and experienced the blessings of the gospel first hand.

How I live my faith

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints doesn't have a paid clergy and so it relies heavily on it members to teach and administer the gospel of Jesus Christ. When I was a young man I was fortunate to serve as a missionary in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and had the opportunity teach others who were interested in learning more about the LDS Church. For most Latter-day Saints, including myself, being a member provides many opportunities to serve in a variety of capacities throughout our lives. As a husband and father, I also have the responsibility, together with my wife, to teach and prepare our children to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ as well as good members of their communities. Finding time to do this can be difficult given how busy life can get. That is why my wife and I set aside Monday nights to have "Family Home Evening" or "FHE" as we sometimes call it. A typical FHE includes a prayer, a song and a short lesson catered to our children's needs. We then almost always follow that up with some sort of treat to cap off the night! Personal study is also an important component of my faith. I enjoy reading scripture including the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine & Covenants and the words of living prophets. It is not uncommon for me to find answers and direction midst life's challenges while studying from these resources.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

In college, some of my classes included labs that involved conducting various "experiments" that required that I study certain materials and do certain things to obtain a desired result. In many ways, the Gospel of Jesus Christ as taught within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the same. By studying its teachings and bringing your life into conformity with those teachings, a person can come to know that those teachings are true as they receive answers to their prayers and begin to experience the blessings that come from doing so.
