Hi I'm Cat Martin

I'm a mother, an expat, and a writer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

A few months ago my husband and I took our family to South America for a little over 2 months. We sold most everything we owned and embarked on a trip of a lifetime. It was so wonderful to disconnect from all the things we have come to depend on in this technological era and get back to basics of spending quality time together. One morning I was talking with my husband and confessed that even though I've been a member all my life I feel like I am always 2 or 3 steps behind where I should be. It was beginning to really effect me, and if something didn't drastically change in my life it never would. The following week was the beginning of a radical spiritual change in my life. I was able to focus on reading the scriptures (a few chapters a day as opposed to a few verses) and have true heartfelt prayers to my Heavenly Father. Good habits were formed and so many things started to click in my mind making the gospel seem alive and apart of me. I wanted to have a relationship with my Savior and knew that I was the only one that could make this happen. I wanted to have the knowledge of gospel principles and scriptures so that when my children asked me questions I could answer them through the power of the Holy Ghost while bearing witness to them instead of telling them to go ask there father. I still feel like I have much to learn, but for the first time in my life I feel good about where I am and where I am going. Change in our life begins with desire; true, honest desire.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church since my infancy and taught the gospel truths, but like all who come unto Christ I had my own true conversion. I was taking part in an Especially for Youth program when I was 17 and the theme was centered around the Doctrine and Covenants and the life of Joseph Smith Jr., that's when it all really began to click for me. Coming to the realization of all that he did for us; what he sacrificed because of his belief in God, and the work that he had done resonated with me so deeply for the first time in my life. He had a preordained mission for this life to bring the fullness of the gospel to the world again, yet even in the beginning of his search for truth was prompted to ask of God. I was overwhelmed with the spirit while studying the scriptures that tears would fill my eyes. That was not something I had ever experienced before, but the joy that was in my heart was undeniably the holy ghost bearing witness to me the truths of the gospel. Other truths throughout my life had been made manifested unto me as my testimony continues to grow and I have no interest on turning my back on these precious truths that I believe with my whole heart and have blessed my life many times over. This is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I start by living my faith in my home. My husband and I have been blessed with 3 beautiful children. I strive each day to have a peaceful spirit in our home as I teach my children gospel truths as well as life lessons. I believe they are both intertwined in raising strong faithful children in these latter days. At church I have had the privilege of serving in the nursery children 18 months to 3 years old and watching their awakening testimonies, even at their young age strengthens my own. I have taught the youth as well and find much joy in doing so.
