Hi I'm Joy

I'm a wife, mother, writer and teacher. I bake a mean chocolate chip cookie, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife, mother, writer, teacher and on and on. I was a drama teacher for two years in Utah and then our family moved to the midwest where we have lived for 12 years. I still love to teach, especially jr. high and high school age kids. Someday I would love to see something I've written published. I love spending time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is part of my heritage. I come from a long line of Mormons. But around the time I was 14, I wanted to know for myself if what my parents had taught me was true. I knew I believed in God, because I had already experienced situations where I felt His love and comfort. I wanted to know if Joseph Smith was a prophet and if the Book of Mormon was true. I studied the Book of Mormon and prayed about what I had read. I remember having a quiet peace that what I had been taught my whole life was true. I have never looked back. I am a Mormon because I love the peace I have in my heart from the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When the world around me is in turmoil, I still see and feel so much good. I still believe in honesty, kindness, morality, service to others, and family. All those good things come from God. I know it. I feel it. I believe it. I live it.

How I live my faith

I have always been involved in my church congregations. One of the things I love about being a Mormon is that everyone is needed. We all help out where the Lord needs us. Currently, I teach a Sunday class for teenage girls ages 16-18. I also support my husband who is currently serving as our congregational leader, or Bishop. He is basically a volunteer pastor and it takes a lot of his time and energy to fulfill his responsibilities. No matter what capacity I have served, my life has been blessed by giving of my time and talents to help others. In the community I have really enjoyed volunteering at the schools where my children attend. I love working in the school library and helping young children find books to read. I also enjoy making costumes for school plays or just helping with the productions in any way I can. I feel like community service is a way to show my gratitude for all God has given me.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Joy
My faith in Jesus Christ has taught me to be forgiving, patient, compassionate and more loving. As I study the teachings of Christ in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, I learn more and more about the kind of person I want to be. Having a home where Christ is the center of our devotion creates a sanctuary from the chaos of the world. We pray together, worship together, study the scriptures together, teach each other, serve each other and love each other. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Joy
Absolutely! The full name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We believe that Jesus Christ is at the head of this church and his prophet and apostles help administrate His will across the earth today. We study the life of Christ and His teachings in our Sunday services and in our family scripture studies. We believe in God the Father and that Jesus Christ is His Son. We look forward to the day when Christ will come again to the earth and reign in glory and love. Show more Show less
