Hi I'm Nick

I grew up in Bakersfield, California. I'm an engineer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My beautiful wife and I were married the summer after I graduated college. We've spent the early part of our marriage in four different cities throughout California chasing affordable housing and job opportunities. Along the way we have been blessed with two wonderful children and Lily, our dog. Exposed early to construction by my father, I enjoy the challenges of structural engineering. Finding ways to make buildings and other structures safe without sacrificing functionality, aesthetics, and the budget makes every day interesting. Although I'm not particularly gifted athletically, I enjoy snow skiing, water skiing, basketball, golf, and most recently, racquetball. Our family loves to go to the lake with our hand-me-down boat to enjoy the water, sun, and a picnic. It's even more fun when we get our friends to come along! We also enjoy camping, but that hasn't happened much recently. Once the kids get a little older we plan to go more often.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the LDS faith when I was a teenager. Some of my family were members, but only my grandmother actively participated. I had been taught many of the principles of the Gospel by my family, even if I didn't realize it. The missionaries visited our home from time to time and on one occasion asked if they could come back and teach me more about the Gospel. I agreed, and in a short time I was baptized. My decision to be baptized is best characterized by the the scripture in Alma, chapter 32; I didn't know that I was missing anything in my life but I put the Gospel to the test and the Holy Ghost testified to me of its truthfulness. Since that time the seed has flourished as much as I have nourished it and done more for me and my family than I could have imagined. I never want to be without the Church of Jesus Christ in my life.

How I live my faith

I am currently the Clerk for our Ward; I manage the records and make sure everything is accurate and up-to-date. In the past I have served with the youth in the Church and the Missionaries. Each week I enjoy attending our various meetings at Church and being uplifted. Also, the opportunity to work closely with the Bishop as part of my Church responsibility strengthens my testimony of the Savior. Striving every day to follow the council of my Savior, Jesus Christ, gives me more joy in my life than anything else I can imagine.
