Hi I'm Becky

I grew up all over the United States. I'm a med school student's wife. I work with struggling youth. I am a happy person.

About Me

I grew up in a loving household with a father who taught me to think outside of the box and a mother who taught me to love unconditionally. I have a degree in American Studies, and I love literature. I am a film fanatic and a total foody, but my husband has taught me to also love exercise and a healthy diet. I am the oldest of 3 children, and my siblings, parents, and spouse are my favorite people in the world. I have a full-time job, a puppy, and I help plan weekly activities and tutoring for youth in Houston. My life is not perfect, and I am not perfect. But I know where happiness comes from, and I am truly a happy person!

Why I am a Mormon

I was blessed to be born to parents who love the teachings of Jesus Christ and are faithful members of the Mormon church. They taught me that God will answer my prayers if I ask with faith. So I did searching for myself. Throughout my youth I met people from many different religions, explored teachings of other faiths, and studied the teachings of my church, and then asked for myself. My answer was clear. I love being a Mormon. The teachings are centered around Christ and fill my life with light and understanding. The organization of the church allows me to go anywhere in the world and be taught the same things, to have a welcoming church family... Have you ever heard that "by their fruits you shall know them"? When it comes to religion, I'm a firm believer in that--if the product is good then the source is good. I have made my religion the foundation for my life, and the results have been good. Being a member of this church truly makes me happy. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith step by step. Like everyone in this world, I make mistakes. But the most beautiful thing is that I know there is hope through the Savior Jesus Christ. So I rely on him and strive daily to be more like him. I do this by finding opportunities to serve others. In church I prepare and give lessons every month to the women's organization on gospel topics. I sing in the church choir. I also go with a friend to visit a few women from the church every month and make sure they are doing well. At work I try to always be honest and kind to my coworkers. At home, my husband and I work together to continually develop our relationship, make our house a peaceful environment, and help each other accomplish our personal goals. In this way, my faith is the foundation of the enriching life I am trying each day to live.

What is the Relief Society?

The Relief Society is a church organization specially designed for women. It is an organization that functions to A make sure every woman in the church is taken care of and B provide service or relief inside and outside the church. The women in Relief Society participate in lessons prepared by its members, community service projects, visiting a few women each month to make sure their needs are being met, and they help organize church activities.  Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Members of the church are often referred to as Mormons because, in addition to the Bible, we use a book in our scripture study called the Book of Mormon. It is another testament of Jesus Christ written by ancient prophets on the American continents, but it was edited by a man named Mormon. Because that book sets us apart from other religions initially, early critics of the church picked up on the title "Mormons," and it stuck. So... our official title is Latter-day Saints, but the world knows us as "Mormons"-- and that is perfectly fine. It doesn't affect what we believe. Show more Show less

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

The gift of the Holy Ghost can provide us with numerous blessings. Life is hard and with life comes many struggles and uncertainties that tend to bring us down. However, the Holy Ghost is a Comforter. It can lift us, help us to find answers, guide us with peace-bearing promptings, and aid us on the road to recovery and reassurance. Show more Show less

Who was Joseph Smith?

Joseph Smith was a prothet of God. He was the man chosen to aid in the reestablishing of Christ's church on the earth. Although he played an important role in the establishing of the church, Mormons do not worship him. He is revered as a prophet, but it is understood that he was capable of error like any human. Not everything he did was perfect, but he tried his best to restore the church to the earth as the Lord instructed. He withstood criticism, violence, and betrayal to organize a church dedicated to Jesus Christ, and for that I am truly grateful.  Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Yes, Mormons are Christians. The Mormon church is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. So, if one were to judge the book by it's cover, then by definition it is a Christian church, a church that believes Christ is the Savior. But there are other ways of knowing whether it is a Christian organization. If you read the Latter-day Saint "Articles of Faith" which explain the fundamental beliefs of the church, you will find that the first article states that "We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost." The fourth article states that "We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ..." The Savior Jesus Christ is the foundation of the religion. Latter-day Saints are taught to strive to live Christ-like lives.  Show more Show less
