Hi I'm Phil

I'm a Mormon. I am British and been a Mormon for over forty years. Best thing I ever did.

About Me

I am a retired school teacher, college lecturer, schools inspector and businessman. I have a degree and doctorate and I'm also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. A few years ago I did a counselling course to help me be a better listener. I am married with eleven children and five grandchildren (so far!) My hobbies are family history, football and steam locomotives. I've done quite a lot of traveling including most European countries, Egypt, Israel, New Zealand, Australia, the USA and Canada. I live in England and help with the campaign to become a republic.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church in 1968 when I was 19 years old. When the missionaries first spoke to me I'd never heard of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Firstly I was particularly impressed that two Americans would come all the way to England for two years at their own expense to share what they knew with me. Secondly they said I would have to study and pray about what they were teaching me to know for myself that it was true. I did this and quickly gained a witness of the truth of their teachings. I had a great many questions and yet they were always answered to my satisfaction. Over the past over forty years I have tried to put the teachings of the Church into practise in my life - and have received all the promised blessings. My cup has run over (and still does!) as it were. I have also seen how living the teachings has helped hundreds if not thousands of others in a very practical way in their everyday lives. Joining the Church was the best decision I have ever made.

How I live my faith

I live in England with my wife and our children. I attend Church every week on Sunday morning and I have responsibilities that mean I travel locally and teach leadership skills. My priority is obviously my family with whom I have a very good relationship. No matter what other time we have together in the week, we always spend Monday evenings together and talk about things that matter to our children. I also have three familes that I visit every month and help in any way I can. I am interested in family history and have just had my journals published for my family. I also do family history research. I have plenty of time for this as I am retired. I was a businessman and found that applying Church teachings on honesty and integrity and so forth led to a great deal of success. I not only believe in honesty, I also do my best to live it. I have always found that the Church teachings and programmes have been the best possible practical help to leading a happy life. For example our health code means I am fit and free of illnesses and ailments and help is always available with literally any challenges that arise in my life.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

We help anyone anywhere in the world to the extent of our ability regardless of whether they have a faith or no faith. This applies to me personally as well as to the Church's tremendous humanitarian programme. Most of my friends are not Church members and I treat them the same as members when they need a hand.
