Hi I'm Steven

I am the oldest of 5. I grew up in Oregon. I´m a Lacrosse player. I´m a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 24 years old, studying Neuroscience at Brigham Young University, and am striving to be the best husband, older brother and contributing member to society as I can. The Lord has blessed me to have two wonderful parents who love the Lord and continue to encourage, like me, my 2 brothers and 2 sisters to be the best they can be. I love playing lacrosse with friends, to go hiking, and I am an active runner.

Why I am a Mormon

Many people may think that because i was born into a family that's Mormon that it would just mean that I would be Mormon too. And yes, while I was growing up I did go to Church and do the things that I knew i ought to do. But then there came a time that I realized that I couldn't simply just doing these things unless i knew for myself. And so i decided to do what I've always had been hearing people doing -Read the Book of Mormon and Pray about it, then God will in His own way let you know. This so to speak "test" I didn't do yet. So I read the Book of Mormon front to back -which was much easier in theory than in practice- and then I went by myself and prayed. It was actually more like a conversation with God. I told Him my struggles and my desire to know if Book of Mormon and the teachings of the modern prophets were true, and I specifically asked if they were. I distinctly remember the feeling that came into my heart, but i can't describe it very well; it was a warm, peaceful and comforting feeling, and a few words came into my mind, "You already know that it is true." I felt slightly disappointed at first, because I wanted for something more to completely convince me like by a loud booming voice, but it was quiet and assuring. And more especially, i know that it was exactly what i needed. I can't tell you what you'll feel in your heart when you do the test -Read and Pray about the Book of Mormon. But I know God hears and responds.

How I live my faith

For about the last two years of my life I had been a full time volunteer church missionary in Brazil. It was an amazing opportunity to serve others and share the message of Christ, His redeeming sacrifice, and the restored gospel. Now I live my faith in a day to day basis by asking God for opportunities to help others. Quite amazingly I am almost always am given opportunities to help someone out. It not only feels great to make someone's day but also to recognize the Lords hand on it all.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Steven
Temples are in essence "the house of the Lord." The bible tells of tabernacles/temples and how holy the place is. It's a place of learning, prayer, and for ordinances. Some of those sacred ordinances are that are held here are eternal marriages and proxy baptisms for the dead. I love the temple and the amazing peace that i can feel while I'm inside. By just going to walk around the building's grounds I can feel that peace. Show more Show less

What is faith?

Steven
Faith, to me, is a strong hope for something. For example, If I have "faith in someone", i'm saying that I know they can do it, even though I don't absolutely know for sure. But i don't let my doubt take over. So, to have faith in God is to trust Him, to be confident that God is in control and wants you to be happy, and to be willing to do what He wants -even though it may be hard, Something that I've learned about faith is that it is in degrees. Someone that has stronger faith in God has a stronger willingness to do be better, and trust Him more. And also I've learned that it grows.(Alma 32:28-43) It grows by doing things that are harder, and trusting God when things get rougher. Faith leads to action. Action leads us to become. And we are told to become perfect like our Father in Heaven (Matthew 5:48). Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

Steven
Priesthood is the authority to act in God's name. Those who hold this authority have the authority to do specific things such as: perform ordinances (like baptism), give blessings by placing hands on a person, and lead the congregations of the Lord's Church. The Priesthood has been given to all the prophets of old and modern, and also the Apostles Christ chose. That same priesthood authority, exists in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
