Hi I'm Tom Bailey

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the first member of my family to be baptized in to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am a Cherokee descendant and of Scottish origin. I found the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the early 80s thanks to a good friend who was preparing to serve a Mission to England. I am a Navy Veteran and a career Law Enforcement officer with over 2 decades of service. I met my beautiful wife in 1988 and she and I married in early 1989. She is the love of my life and we have 4 strong loving children with our oldest currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Southwest.

Why I am a Mormon

Coming from a rich Native American heritage, I longed to find truthfulness about the Lord Jesus Christ having come to what is now North and South America. We have many legends and references to his being here but never was there any sound evidence to pinpoint his earthly ministry in this part of the world. Then in 1982 I met a mountain of a young man who had a hearty laugh and a smile that lit up the space around him. I noticed that there was something unusual about him in that he seemed to be one of the happiest people I had ever met. He and I struck up a conversation and the subject of religion came up. I told him that I was a member of a Protestant faith and he said that he was a Mormon or a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He went on to say that he had a message for me. I listened and when he showed me the Book of Mormon and explained that this was a history of my people, I knew that this was a faith that fit perfectly with my Native beliefs. Through this young man I found my heritage and my faith. I have a strong testimony that Jesus Christ did indeed walk the Americas and he did minister to the peoples here. To know that I am part of that ministry with the opportunity to share with others is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I think perhaps the best way to sum up how I live my faith is to say that our Word of Wisdom is not only a plan for healthy lifestyle but it is a plan for happiness. I live my faith by offering up prayers daily and at many times throughout the day and I know that my Heavenly Father does indeed hear my prayers and will answer them when the time is right for me. By following the counsel of the Prophet and then teaching my family all that I can and attending regular Church services I can guide my family better along the path to eternal perfection. I believe in service and have tried to teach my family by one simple motto: "others before self" and believe that as long as we remember that one small phrase, we can help others to overcome their burdens and lead them to the path of righteousness and happiness.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Tom Bailey
We teach all who are interested in learning about Mormonism and whether or not it is indeed all that we testify it is, to search ponder and pray. If one prays with real intent believing that God will reveal to them through the promptings of the Holy Ghost/Spirit, they will come to know for themselves that Jesus is the Christ and we are his disciples and that Mormonism is true and the right path to return to our Father in Heaven to live with him throughout the eternities to come.
