Hi I'm Ryan

I'm a husband and father of three. I teach computers how to see. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and a father. Together my wife and I are raising three wonderful children. Some of my favorite activities to do with my children include reading books to them, building with LEGOs, and playing board games. I grew up playing soccer and running track and field (eventually competing as a decathlete), but have recently taken up basketball, which I enjoy playing with friends each week. Professionally, I am a computer vision researcher. I develop mathematical models and program computers to help them recognize objects in images and video. I enjoy traveling to new places. Among my favorite activities when traveling is to see new wildlife, in particular birds and tropical fish.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because living the gospel makes me tremendously happy. Raised without any religious teachings, my life had no spiritual dimension for many years. That is, until I found out that a classmate was unavailable to study or do schoolwork on Sundays. Inquiring as to why, I discovered that she went to church and did not study at all on Sunday. I asked if I could come to church with her and when I did, I was very impressed with the men and women I met. They seemed bright and kind, but above all it was clear that they had something in their lives that I did not... a strong sense of both identity and purpose. So much of my life had been spent without much of either. I then learned more about the Church and the restored gospel. Praying to know if what I had learned was true, I received a witness from God that it was. No angel appeared, but simple yet clear feelings of peace and joy filled my heart. Many additional experiences since then have further confirmed to me that the gospel is true. I know that I am a child of God and that each of us tremendously. Our brother Jesus Christ loves us so much that he gave his life to overcome ours sins. I feel great joy each time that I help others as he would do or change my heart trying to be more like him. Surely God's greatest joy comes from us drawing closer to him and having a happy family through following his teachings. I know that our families can truly be together forever. That's why I'm a Mormon. :)

How I live my faith

You may have heard that love is spelled "T-I-M-E". Time is a precious commodity and I believe that time should be used, not only wisely but unselfishly. I strive to live my faith and show my love by putting others first. My greatest duty (and also my greatest joy) is to my family. We believe that families can be together forever. I strive together with my wife to build a strong family. I truly love to spend time with them, there is no where I would rather be. Every member of the Church is asked to serve or help out in some way. I currently teach the adult Sunday School class at Church, leading discussions about what we can learn from the scriptures and how to apply these lessons in our daily lives. I also visit other families from church on a monthly basis, trying to help them have a strong family and help them in various ways. I try to be as kind and helpful as I can to coworkers and friends. I try to see ways that I can do good and brighten someone else's day.
