Hi I'm Jack

I'm lazy. I'm tired. The father of three, grandfather of two.

About Me

I'm hoping to return to College at age 50 to complete a B.S. in Informations Systems Management. I've worked for the government for 27 years, including a 9 year stint in the Air Force. I'm crazy about basketball and even though I'm 50 I can still play (for about 10 minutes anyway).

Why I am a Mormon

To me the "good news" about Jesus Christ is just that, GOOD NEWS! It isn't something you understand it's something you experience and share. I'm not a Mormon based on some deep study, even though I've spent many nights in prayerful contemplation of many doctrinal points. I'm a Mormon because when my Step-Father passed away, the church membership took my mother under their wing, they provided physical service and friendship to my Mom. They provided me with an opportunity to become more that I thought I was capable of being. They served me, and as importantly, they taught me to serve others.

How I live my faith

I don't know that I'm a great example of a church member. But, I do appreciate the opportunities that I have to serve. I'm the Employment Specialist for our congregation. I try to help us stay aware of members of the church and the community who are in need of employment and I try to help folks gain the skills they need to get a job. I might review, or even help prepare a resume. I help teach workshops that improve interview skills and teach people how to "network". I'm also afforded an opportunity to teach the men one Sunday each month. One of things we do as church members is visit the homes of other members. We call this "Home Teaching" when it's done by men and "Visiting Teaching" when it's done by women. I "Home Teach" two families in our ward, I wish I could say that I visited them faithfully each month. But, I am always mindful of their well being and I always feel better when I've made the opportunity for a visit. For me the "Home Teaching" program of the church is so important, it was a mechanism for providing service to my Mother and myself when I was young.
