Hi I'm Jess

I live in Australia. I enjoy learning, running, music, dancing, eating, going to the beach and being with my family and friends.

About Me

I live near the beach in Australia and I wouldn't have it any other way. My favourite Saturday afternoons are by the waterfront, sharing food with family and friends. We like to go for a swim in the summer or kick a ball around in winter. We also like to go for family bike rides or play board games. Getting three kids out the door to school in the mornings is bananas. While the kids are at school and my husband is at work, I like to blast some music and go for a run or head into university and study. I've had the privelege to become a fitness instructor, then personal trainer. I am now doing a Nursing Science degree. I enjoy learning about the human body. Science fascinates me.

Why I am a Mormon

I became a Mormon at the age of 17 after a school friend invited me to a church dance. I spent some time in my youth away from the Church but I always came back to the feelings of peace that I found when I was living the gospel. I am a Mormon because I love God and I find that the principles of the gospel resonate with me. I know that God hears and answers my prayers.

How I live my faith

I organise activities and help teach lessons in our local Young Women's organisation (girls aged 12-18) at church. My husband and I recently joined the youth in our wider area for a pioneer trek where we pushed handcarts for 47kms over three days. It was a blast! We learn about the Lord together, reach out in service to people in our community and do other fun stuff like having movies nights or water-balloon fights. I also visit other women in our local area to check on their welfare and express my love for them. To me, living my faith ultimately means loving and caring for others.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

When I pray I see my prayers answered. When I follow the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ I feel peace that I've never found anywhere else on earth. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

We believe that families can be together forever through participating in the ordinances required, like baptism. We believe that all people will have the opportunity to hear the gospel and to chose wether or not to accept it. This includes people who may have lived on the earth without hearing the gospel. By being baptised on their behalf (or by proxy) we are doing the physical things that the dead are unable to do to perform these orinances. They then have the opportunity to accept this gift. What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Mormon people live just like any other people. All of us are different. We have families and friends. We like good food and entertainment. We go to movies, listen to music, paricipate in competitive sport and have parties and dances. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

No. Joseph Smith was the first prophet of our time. Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith and asked him to help them to restore the gospel to the earth in our day just like it was in the times of the ministry of Jesus in the bible. We are grateful for the life and sacrifices that Joseph Smith made so that we could have the fulness of the gospel on the earth today but we only worship Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Anyone can go to a Mormon church meeting. The sacrament meeting goes for about an hour. People offer prayers, the congregation sings hymns and there are talks (like sermons) given about gospel principles. Come along! You're bound to make a friend or two. :) Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

You don't have to take my word for it... Come to church, learn about us and then pray and ask for yourself. If you ask Heavenly Father, he will answer your prayer. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

I was never able to find the peace and happiness outside of the church that I have been able to find within it. I believe that living by the teachings of the Lord is what creates this happiness in my life now. One of the most important commandments ever given by God was to love one another. I think that an understanding of the suffering and abuse within the pornography industry would help people to shun it by not wanting to create that environment for those we have been commanded to love. Let's not objectify these individuals because they're on the other side of the camera, but nurture them as if they were important members of our own family. It's not right for people to find pleasure in their adversity. Show more Show less
