Hi I'm Rachel Tollestrup

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of eight (6 boys and 2 girls), a stay at home mom, an avid reader, and a wife. I have been married for 21 years and live in San Diego. I love the beach, Disneyland (I am a Disney die hard), book club, playing mom soccer, the gym, watching my kids play sports, beach camping, listening to Audio books, watching movies, playing with my family, cooking, baking cookies (way too many cookies), hiking and spending time with my family. I am a cub scout leader and a proud mom of 2 Eagle scouts. I love making family movies and traveling. For the most part I am too busy to have time for all of my hobbies but my favorite hobby is being a wife and a mother and I am never too busy to love that. I think that there are 28 hours in a day and am surprised daily when I realize there are only 24 hours. Not enough time to get everything done that I want to but my house is almost clean once a day when the house is quiet and kids are sleeping, my kids are healthy and happy and only fight 9 times per day ;). There is always overflowing laundry and overflowing love. We love sports, we love family time and we live in a crazy, messy and beautiful chaos.

Why I am a Mormon

My Dad is a convert and my Mom is a lifelong member like me. I was born and raised in the church but I still feel like I had a personal conversion story as a teenager. I sought truth and answers at 16 and received a powerful confirmation just for me that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church. It is the one thing that is certain in a very uncertain world. I draw strength and joy from that knowledge and the guidance it gives me in my life is humbling. I depend on that guidance as I try to teach my children how to navigate a world that isn't always kind, fair or safe. Yet because I know my purpose here and the plan of salvation I know we will be treated fairly by my Heavenly Father, he will keep us safe and he is unfailingly kind. The gospel of Jesus Christ makes everything in my life possible and I give thanks every day that I am a member of His church.

How I live my faith

I am a Primary President which means I am in charge of over 130 children from the age of 18 months to 11 years old. I have tremendous help from other people in my area and I feel blessed to have this stewardship and to work with the amazing people I work with. The best part of my calling is by far the children. They are sweet, funny, exuberant, innocent, loving, trusting, good and joyful. I learn more every week from their approach to life than I could ever teach them. It is a very fun calling to have and I love it!
