Hi I'm Robert

I grew up in England. I am married and the father of five children.I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 53 and have lived the first half of my life in Huddersfield, but since I reached the age of 31, I married my wife Lisa and moved south to Sheffield, England, where I currently live with my wife and three children. I was born in Nottingham, England in 1959 and am the eldest of six children. In my youth I was never very academic and attended state run schools until I left at age 16 to be a carpenter and joiner. After having flirted briefly with that career choice, in 1979 I started serving in Manchester, England as a full time missionary for the church, after which having discovered a talent for speaking to people, I sought a professional career as a salesman. I have followed this career path ever since and in that time I have travelled to many countries around the world through my work. I am a keen but basically useless photographer mainly inspired through taking pics of my family, friends and places I visit. Other hobbies include trying to keep fit through cycling and occasionaly jogging and then un-doing all the good work by eating out at the Chinese, Indian or other junk food restaurants. My footballing days are long over and I find playing golf both a constant source of frustration and satisfaction in equal measure. The garden is my wifes domain, but she ropes me in for any heavy work or when someone needs to scale a ladder. Such is life!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church and raised a Mormon by my parents who were converted to the gospel in the 1950's. For as long as I can remember though, even as a young boy, I have always believed in the testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith, and have a firm testimony that he did receive a vision in the grove of trees of the Father and the Son. But in my late teens I had a burning desire to read and gain for myself a spiritual witness that the Book of Mormon was a true book so that I could truly know for myself and be able to share my testimony with others. After reading the book for about two weeks and earnestly seeking the Lord in prayer for a witness to the validity and truthfulness of that book, I gained a spiritual witness born of the Holy Ghost that the Book of Mormon really is a true book and have never doubted that witness I received, since. I have had many wonderful experiences in my life which have come to me only through being a Mormon, by living the commandments of God and by following the gospel of Jesus Christ. My happiness is complete as with my wife and children we live and follow in the Saviours foot steps together.

How I live my faith

Since 1981, when I returned from serving a two year mission for the church, I have had many callings in the church. I have served faithfully in many areas including being the Young Mens President in the church's youth program, as Ward Mission Leader, Elders Quorum President, Gospel Doctrine instructor, High Priest Group Leader and on the Sheffield Stake High Council. More recently I have served on three different bishoprics, as a Ward Mission Leader again and now find myself now serving as the Bishop of Sheffield Ward 1.
