Hi I'm Chris Rogers

I grew up in California, USA. I'm a professional field linguist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of four. I completed a doctorate in linguistics in 2010 and specialize in documenting unwritten languages. I spend my summers collaborating with native communities all across the Americas in conserving their languages and creating pedagogical materials for their schools. I am an adjunct professor of linguistics at Brigham Young University. I speak English and Spanish and have working knowledge of at least 12 other languages - including the languages I help to document. I enjoy sports (especially baseball). I also enjoy music. I play the saxophone and I have taught myself elementary piano, and am working on the guitar now. My favorite kind of music has a solid rhythm. I am mostly drawn to jazz.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a Mormon, but personally became converted to the Lord when I was sixteen. Being a Mormon fills me with hope. We all have difficulties and dreams, but my faith has helped me develop a constant trust in the Lord. I am comforted that He is working with me to create a life that strengthens me individually and helps me become the best man, husband, and person that I can be. Whenever I feel like I am losing sight of the goals I have set or of my individual life's plan, I turn to the Lord and I know that He will help me accomplish what I need to accomplish. I served a mission for the LDS church to Lima, Peru (North), and found through that experience that the Lord is aware of our individual needs, as well as our goals, hopes and dreams. I continue to be a Mormon because I value this relationship with Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I serve as executive secretary in my ward. I enjoy seeing the overlap in administration and ministration. In this position I experience the generosity and goodness of the members of my ward everyday. It is inspiring to me to see the good that one man or woman can do.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?
