Hi I'm Andy

I'm a husband, father of young twins, lover of sports, and university professor. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm originally from Southern California and my wife is originally from South Africa. We met in Seattle and have lived in Georgia for the past 4 years. Our lives changed forever (and for the better) when our twins were born in May 2010.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon for two primary reasons. First, this is the happiest way to live that I know of. It really is. Second, I deeply believe that the teachings of this church are true. Specifically, I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that he died for us all, and that because of Him we can be forgiven of anything. I believe the Book of Mormon comes from God, and I grow closer to Him by reading it. And I believe God uses prophets to help us learn the gospel, that Joseph Smith was one of those prophets, and that God has a prophet on earth today.

How I live my faith

My faith guides me in every aspect of my life. The most important way I live my faith is by trying to be a good husband and father. We try to have a home that is inviting to the Holy Spirit and that is full of love and happiness. We try to teach our kids about Christ. My faith also influences the way I try to treat people and they way I view them. Remembering that we are all children of God, each struggling through life and trying to do the best we can with our situation, encourages me to be good and loving to everyone. I have had many fantastic experiences over the years as a result of my faith. I have had the chance to work with lots of really great teenagers and to help them learn more of Christ at a critical time in their life. I also lived in Uruguay for 2 years as a missionary for my church, sharing with people there the teachings of this church. And through my faith, I've met and become friends with so many great people who I really like and admire. My faith and this church have a positive impact on literally every aspect of my life.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

They will probably share their beliefs about God and Jesus Christ, and then teach you about Joseph Smith and The Book of Mormon (what it is, who wrote it, etc.). They will also likely invite you to read excerpts of The Book of Mormon during your free time. This is important because The Book of Mormon teaches of Christ and is the surest way to know if the message the missionaries are sharing actually comes from God. Show more Show less

Why is family so important to Mormons?

One reason families are so important to Mormons is because we believe we can remain with our families after we die. As a result, since we don't view these relationships as only temporary, we believe it is important to have strong family relationships. Families come in all different shapes and sizes. Some families have a few kids, some have lots of kids, and some have no kids. Some people are married and others are not. Whatever your family situation is, we believe families can be a great source of happiness ... now and forever. Show more Show less
