Hi I'm Tamsyn

I'm an American mother of five, a homeschooling mom, blogger, and musician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised in a Mormon family, I was homeschooled, and I am the oldest of 11 children. I majored in music when I was in college, married, and now I have four beautiful children that are my inspiration. I have always admired my mother, I wanted to be like her when I grew up, and I'm living my dream as a professional mother. I love homeschooling them. While not a die-hard, I am into the natural parenting movement. My children were born at home, we co-sleep and baby wear, and try to eat a holistic diet, although I have been known to make packaged lasagna for dinner when it's on sale. :) I love music, it still plays an important role in my life. I dream of living in an RV for a year and traveling the country with my family someday. We also dream of building a monolithic dome home. We're crazy and we love life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church with pioneer ancestors, so the Mormon faith is also engrained into my family culture. I have never doubted the truthfulness that Jesus Christ is my Savior, that he died for me, that God speaks to His servants the prophets, that He can speak to me, nor have I ever doubted that the Book of Mormon was a second witness to these truths. But through my own experiences in my personal life, in the church, and in my associations with others, I have had tender moments that have changed and deepened my beliefs. In time, I went from never doubting to knowing that being a member of this church is what God wants me to do.

How I live my faith

As a musician, my church responsibilities have been in the choir, accompanist for various meetings including organist, I've worked on music committees, substituted for the youth, and various other responsibilities. I've worked a few other places, but I keep coming back to music. Or maybe it keeps coming back to me! I live my faith by following gospel principles, teaching them to my children, and striving to be a better person. I want to be the person that the Savior would have me be.

What are some of the ways that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helps those around the world?

I offer one example. I used to work at Deseret Industries (the DI), which is the Mormon church's thrift store. While I worked there I was amazed at how this stand-alone unit benefits people all over the world in it's humanitarian efforts. I previously knew that donations were taken and delivered to families, and countries in need. What I didn't know is that the proceeds from the store pay for the shipment of these items, as well as all internal costs. This example of self-sufficiency as an organization was powerful for me. We are taught to be self-sufficient, and when we have provided for ourselves and our families, we try to reach out and help others to become self-sufficient as well. Show more Show less
