Hi I'm Tom

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love politics, I love to draw and sing, and I'm trying to be a good person.

Why I am a Mormon

My religion means everything to me. I don't take it lightly anymore. There was a point in my life when I didn't believe in the restored gospel, and my life felt empty. For the first time in my life I'm dedicated to God, and I'm so happy because of it!

How I live my faith

Before I started my mission in Oregon, I taught Sunday School to youth for a couple of years. During my mission, I spent all of my time spreading the message of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and helping people in their journey back to our Father in Heaven.

What is faith?

Tom
Hebrews 11, verse 1 tells us that faith is " the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." It's accepting that God can give us truth through the Holy Ghost, and recognizing that truth. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Tom
I have a great love for the Bible, and I believe I speak for all Mormons. It's God's word. It's probably the most influential book in history. It's given to us so that "the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works" as Paul said in his epistle to Timothy. Show more Show less

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

Tom
The short answer is that God chooses the prophet. Numbers 12, verse 6 tells us how God calls a man to be a prophet. The actual process that occurs when a prophet dies in Christ's church is similar to what happened in Acts 1. The living apostles vote on who the next prophet will be. In practice, they always vote unanimously, usually for the most senior apostle. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Tom
The first step in beginning a relationship with God is accepting that we need him. It takes humility, or "fearing God". There is one that is perfect, and there is pure truth in existence, but we are not perfect and we don't have all of the truth. We are fallen, and we are all sinners. While sinners, we cannot be around God, who is the source of all love. We have to listen to him and understand him. He has told us about great gifts that he has for us. The greatest is eternal life, life with God, life with a fulness of joy, life with our families forever. He has told us we can have the love of God in our lives, which is most precious above all things. He has told us we can be clean from sin. "The Lord (our) Redeemer suffered death in the flesh" so we could repent. He came down from heaven to endure every pain caused by our sins and weaknesses. He understands everything according to the flesh. He overcame the world, so we don't have to fear. He told us that if we believe in him, that we can do the works he did (John 14:12). Faith leads us to follow him. The more we love him, the more we will be like him. He has commanded us to be as he is. We can do this, not because of us, but because of the grace that he gives us. He has told us to have faith, repent, be baptized in his name, accept the gift of the Holy Ghost, and endure to the end of our lives in the faith. He has given us his church so we can experience the fulness of his Atonement. God can tell you if this is true! Show more Show less
