Hi I'm Doug

I was born and raised in Salt lake City, Utah, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a rocket scientist, and I like solving math problems. I'm the father of 6 children and have been happily married for 38 years. I enjoy woodworking and fly fishing. I served 5 years as a naval submarine officer during the Vietnam era. I'm an eagle scout and have been involved as an adult leader in scouting for many years.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I have read the Book of Mormon and the truth of it has been revealed to me by the power of the Holy Ghost, as is promised by Moroni, one of the authors. Because I know this book is true I also know that Joseph Smith, it's translator, was a prophet of God. Living the teachings of Jesus Christ found in this book and in the New Testament have brought me great joy and happiness. I have also found the peace that Christ promised when He said " Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you".

How I live my faith

I coach 14-15 year old young men in organizing activities that teach the ideals of scouting moral character, duty to God and country, and physical and mental fitness. I teach other adult leaders how to be coaches too. In performing these duties I strive to set an example of honesty, integrity, good citizenship and faith. I have taught my own children principles of righteous living during weekly family gatherings called family home evening.  On assignment from my church leaders I share this program with a prison inmate at the Utah State Prison once a month. I am responsible to watch over 4 families in my neighborhood and personally give them an inspirational message each month. I serve the citizens of our community as the neighborhood contact person in our city's community emergency response team organization.
