Hi I'm Julia Mary Barbosa-Prather

"I grew up in Michigan. I have been married to my Sweetheart of 22 years with 5 amazing children and I am a Mormon."

About Me

I am a military spouse with a deep love for military life. I am also a mom of 5 beautiful special needs children of which 2 on the Autism spectrum, 2 with ADD & Dyslexia, and 1 with Bi-polar & Borderline Personality disorder. I have been STOMP trained and love advocating or facilitating for special needs families with IEP or 504 Plan meetings. I tend to be very passionate in all that I do. I love to learn new things especially anything pertaining to FUN!!! I love dancing, horse-riding, camping with my family, swimming, construction work (building things & currently finishing our basement), cleaning & organizing, crafting, quilting, canning, scrapbooking, geneology & family history, scouting, game nights, anything involving my kids & thier friends, BBQ's, picnics, parties, basketball, football, date night with my sweetheart... just about anything except shopping unless I have a purpose!!! My favorite sayings are "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!" & "No success in life can compensate for failure in the home!" I love meeting new people and making friends. I have the greatest friends & family all over the country that have touched me deeply and hold a special place in my heart and love that I can just pick up the phone and call and pick up where we left off and have someone there when I need them and vise-versa.

Why I am a Mormon

After all the other religions I have attended, searched out, or been baptised in, and studied, It just made perfect sense!!! I had so many unanswered questions in many of the other religions, that many of my responses were things like: "Dear child, You must have more faith, and trust in the Lord", or "I don't think this is the right place for you", or "Only someone who is lacking faith in God would be asking such questions." It was the first place I was able to go and have all my questions answered. For instance I couldn't understand why God's word would ever cost money, and shouldn't we serve our fellow man without profit, if not then what is Charity? Or Why would we pray to Mary when Jesus was our example & we are supposed to follow him & in his ways. Well, I never heard that Jesus prayed to his mother only God. When learning about the Godhead, I couldn't understand that they were all ONE. This confused me because as I read the account on when Jesus is being baptised who then was God speaking to when he says, "This is my beloved Son, Hear him", and the dove then decended down upon him as he received the gift of the Holy Ghost? God is not a God of Confusion. So this made my decision easier when all these and more of my questions were answeredon what to bring my children up in. I firmly believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the Lords Church that it holds the most correct truths of any other out there. I am a Mormon because I believe in all that the Gospel of Jesus Christ has outlined for us to return to our Heavenly Father. I think that it is the most beautifully organized faith that has answered all of my thought provoking questions in a manner in which truly explains our Heavnly Fathers plan for us & fulfills the scriptures down to a living prophet that leads & guides us daily. There is no confusion, double standards, or mockery. Just plain & simple truths that clarify the same example Jesus Christ was & is to us today.

How I live my faith

I do my best daily to Live my faith to the fullest in all I do and say. I love serving in any capacity when it is lent. I have been an FRG leader for over 8 years during my husbands time of service, as well as a volunteer for the USO, post hospital, Spouses Club Bazarre Chair, and ACS center. I also co-chaired an Autism Support Group that gave me so much joy in serving my community and helping other families in their struggles with their individual trials. I also love helping with PTO, Scouts, and any other form of service I can give to in sharing my love for others. My children are my daily inspiration to me in striving to become better every day so I can be the best example to them always. I love teaching the gospel in church to our youth ages 14-15 yr. olds. I also serve as the Emergency Preparedness Specialists and Provident Living Specialists and find some of the greatest joys in serving my fellow brothers and sisters in what ever manner their needs are. What I enjoy most about it is teaching the reasons for us to stay prepared in all things. It has a deep and personal meaning to me not to mention the scriptures repeatly tell us this simple principle as well. I also am incharge of seeing that the Teachers are prepared for their Sunday lessons each week and give aid and support in any manner I can. I have to say my favorite calling within the church is Visiting Teaching. It has been to me the most rewarding calling I have ever held for many, many reasons. I have gleened much strength, life lessons, best-friendships, and education that will never go unnoticed. Likewise, I have been able to give back what has been given through true CHARITY. I feel that this has helped form me into the person I am today. I attribute the strong roots, woman-hood, sister-like bonds, and JOY I have from living the Gospel to it's fullest. My Name is Julia Prather & "I am Proud to Be a Mormon!"

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Julia Mary Barbosa-Prather
When I found out that I could be sealed for "Time and all Eternity" by the priesthood instead of "Till Death Do Us Part". This was such a relief to me to find out as well as knowing that Family members who accept the Atonement of Jesus Christ and follow His example can be together forever through sacred ordinances performed in God’s holy temples. These ordinances seal a husband and wife together for all eternity and children to their parents as an eternal family. (See: “The Family: A Proclamation to the World”) Just as some of life’s sweetest joys can come through family associations, the loss of a beloved family member can be a source of our deepest sorrows. So family relationships can last forever—not just for this life. All of this is possible because Jesus Christ gave power to His disciples to seal families together forever when He said, “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19). Death does not need to be the end of our relationships with cherished loved ones. The Lord revealed to Joseph Smith that the “same sociality which exists among us here will exist among us there [in eternity], only it will be coupled with eternal glory” (Doctrine and Covenants 130:2). This is the greatest news I could ever share with anyone I know. God truly has a plan and it's beautiful! Show more Show less
