Hi I'm Melissa

I have lived in England, slept on the beach in Mexico, and taught English in China. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 27 years old and I teach 2nd grade. I have only been teaching for a short time but I love the little successes that my students have each day. It makes the countless hours of planning, stressing, cutting, copying, explaining, repeating and stressing some more, all worth it. I love eating ice cream and watching a good movie when I have the free time. I also enjoy trying new things. My last adventure was skydiving, which I absolutely loved!!! I come from a family of eight, six kids and two parents. I am a middle child and get to deal with all that comes with that=) My family is very important to me and I spend as much time with them as I can. Also, now that our family is expanding with marriages and births, I get more people to love. And that is me.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a Mormon but I had to gain my own testimony for myself. My family are all strong members but when I was a teenager I was struggling to know that what I had been taught my whole life was true. During my teenage years my family was able to be cast members of The Hill Cumorah Pageant (outdoor performance of events written in the Book of Mormon) in Palmyra, New York. One summer when I was 15 years old, we were in New York for the pageant. I had been praying for a long time to receive an answer about whether The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Christ was really the word of God. If the Book of Mormon was the word of God, then The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints would have to be God's church on the earth. I was sitting on the Hill Cumorah reading the part of Book of Mormon that explains events that happened on the very spot I was sitting on. All of a sudden, I began to cry and new that what I was reading really did happen. I new The Book of Mormon was the word of God and was brought forth through the prophet Joseph Smith. I had no doubts. Every time I think of that experience I can feel my Saviors love for me. Yes, had to wait longer than I expected but I got my own, personal answer. Sometimes the Lord wants to make sure we are ready for an answer and will act on the answer we receive before he gives it to us. I have had countless answers to prayers since that experience and look forward to countless more.

How I live my faith

In my congregation, or ward, I get to work with the women 18 years and older. This group of women is called the Relief Society. We meet as women every sunday for an hour and occasionally throughout the week doing different service, learning, or fun activities. My responsibility is the teaching portion of our sunday meetings. I love working with, and learning from other strong, faithful women.
