Hi I'm Vanessa

I'm a Texan. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Last year my husband and I both graduated from college with bachelor's degrees. We were very excited to embark on a new stage of life with permanent jobs, a home, and perhaps a family. Little did we know what the Lord had in store. My husband job-searched for more than six months before finding his current permanent position. What a long six months it was! However, it has made me so grateful now for the blessings God has seen fit to bestow on us!

Why I am a Mormon

Although I grew up LDS, there came a point in high school when I had to decide for myself if the things that I heard in church were true for myself. While I did not have one moment where I knew that all of the Gospel was true, I did have small moments when I felt the Holy Spirit confirm to me that my Heavenly Father loved me. That was the beginning of my testimony. Once I knew that my Father in Heaven loved me, then all other principles of the Gospel could be true. He could answer prayers, He could send His Son, Jesus Christ to die for me, and He could appear to Joseph Smith in order to restore His full Gospel on the earth. Those small confirmations have come to me over and over again through out many wonderful and difficult times in my life. Knowing that I am important enough to be of worth to my divine Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, makes the sweet experiences in my life even sweeter and the hard experiences in my life more bearable.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in my daily life. Sundays are devoted to worship at Church and fulfilling my responsibilities as a Sunday School teacher. Also, this year I have been asked to help out with the Cub Scout Pack that the boys in my congregation participate in. There are about 15 wonderful boys in my charge. I am excited to help them on the path to becoming wonderful young men. My husband and I also make time every moth to attend the Temple. Since we live only about 45 minutes from an LDS Temple, this is possible for us. I go to the Temple to perform saving ordinances such as baptisms and marriages for those who have passed on. The Temple is a place where I can forget my own worries and focus on others. There is a sweet feeling of peace there that comforts me especially during the difficult and uncertain times in my life.

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

We are very family centered. We go to Church as families on Sundays and we also set aside one night a week usually Monday to have what we call Family Home Evening. This is a time to discuss the Gospel and enjoy spending time with each other. Couples are also encouraged to have "date nights" as often as circumstances allow. If you don't have family around, your local congregation can become your family. As a college student, my friends from Church became my family. We had family home evening together, we gave each other rides to church, and we had fun together on the weekends. For fun I personally enjoy going to see movies not rated R, playing card games with friends, singing, and listening to music. Show more Show less
